borrowing a motorcycle (please?!)

hey guys,

I have a biker buddy visiting me in May and with only one bike, our chances to ride together are slim to none. or really, none since I refuse to ride b**** on my own bike.

I was wondering if it's worth it to ask around and see if anyone has a beater bike that they would let go for anywhere between 1 day and 3 weeks, or where I could look to (worst case) rent a bike. he's a chill rider, not speedy at all. mostly rode a cb750. we just want to cruise the countryside a bit. doesn't matter what the bike is as long as it's relatively street legal

I would buy another cheap ninja 250 and sell it when we're done but I just don't have the cash.

I live just outside washington DC and the weather should be stellar for riding in mid-May

anyway, let me know if you have any leads. I realize that borrowing a motorcycle is probably a lot to ask especially for a total stranger, but I gotta ask anyway!

cheers

1. I've never ridden with passengers and when my friend stepped onto the back of my bike once it felt scary and horrible and I almost dropped it standing still...
2. I weigh 100lb and he probably weighs 160, it would be a weird distribution of weight that would probably affect the handling really poorly
3. we would only be able to go on roads with 30mph speed limits, I feel like the 250 would become a 125

I mean I can try it but I dont think it would work out very well... plus I enjoy riding with other people on their own bikes

Have you considered trying to rent a bike? Harley dealers in particular I've seen do that, which at least gets both of you on two wheels.

Some information for you, me with my gear on im around 180 and with her and her gear she is about 220 and we have been on the freeway up to 65 or 70 no problem. If anything its the braking with a passanger and the turns that can be tricky but are nice with practice. With a passanger you just have to brake early and take turns slower. But cruising is very nice and the 250 does it fine.

Its worth a shot if you cant find a bike in time.

You can rent bikes but its costly

renting costs more than buying a pregen 250 if you rent for half a week

There is an eaglerider in the Coleman powersports in falls church. Jay, the owner, is pretty cool but it is expensive. But for a day or two it might be worth it. Call him in the middle of the week and ask of hell give you a midweek special. Sometimes you can knock a few bucks off that way. Good luck!

Why can't he ride his bike? Don't tell me he's one of those "bikers" who can't ride a bike to go see a friend....

it looks like a motorcycle, fits two people like a motorcycle, and theoretically can get you here from Belgium

but seriously. don't be scared of 2-up. especially if your pillion is big and strong. if you fall, he can catch the bike for you.

find a small friend to practice with first maybe.
