Hello from Seattle!

Hi all - no ninjette yet but getting one as soon as something good pops up. If anyone in the seattle area has something - let me know!

My riding history: I started riding on an 80cc dirt bike in the late 90's. The first time on a street bike was around 02 on a cbr600. I eventually owned a few bikes over the years - ninja 500, hawk nt650, and VFR800. I haven't had a bike for a few years now - but a recent trip to Thailand has inspired me to get back on one. Trying to keep it casual this time around, so what better than a classic ninja 250! (pre 2006 - don't like the flames lol)

Thanks for the additional welcomes. I got a sad story you may want to hear.

So I've been having a hell of a time trying to find a decent pre 2006 ninja 250 on my local Craigslist. It's full of the usual "perfect condition - except it was dropped on one side" or they just say it's excellent until you ask for pictures and its all messed up. Come on people - don't say "perfect....except". That doesn't mean perfect. That literally means it's not perfect. Anyway....

So the other day I see a new post for an 05 with that black and green color scheme for 2200. Owned by a retired guy who recently passed away. This thing was mint with 4k miles. I mean perfect. Nice pictures that actually showed every part of the bike, detailed description, meticulous maintenance (if he wasn't lying)...i mean just the ideal Craigslist ad. I've been checking Craigslist constantly and this ad was up for minutes so I jumped right on it.

What do you know - someone actually beat me to it. Super bummed about it lol. I guess 250's are a hot commodity - especially ones that are so mint. In the past I never had an issue with all the other bikes I bought. Nobody ever beat me to it - especially not when responding within minutes.

Oh well - search on right? Lol

Yeah, keep on looking. These bikes are pretty popular.

I set automated searches on Craigslist that texts me whenever hit on match occurs. Sometimés bikes are snatched up within less than 1-hr of posting. Gotta move fast!!

EDIT: Actually - I just figured it out. Funny - all these years of using craigslist, I never used that before. Thanks for the info!

Which Craigslist app are you using? Or are the notifications set up on the actual Craigslist site? Thanks!

Well - I picked something up. Decided to go with a 250r because I was having such bad luck finding a halfway decent pre 06 (in a color scheme I wanted). So I ended up with an 08 250r in that candy plasma blue. 5k miles - probably 8.5/10 cosmetically. $1900 and he threw in an alpinestars jacket. Will post pics soon. It's still in the guys garage (I have the keys and signed title) because I had 6 tooth extractions yesterday and my wife didn't want me to ride the bike all the way home lol....even though it's like 15 minutes away.

Probably a good decision not to ride after that kind of dentist visit!

You're most welcome! You can actually do very complex searches. Such as my small bikes <$1000 search that uses these criteria:

1. search all surrounding areas
2. <$1000
3. Ad contains "Ninja" AND one of following
4. (250 or 250r or EX250 or EX250F or EX250J or 300 or 300r or EX300 or EX300R or 500 or 500R or EX500 or EX500r)

Then it emails me result when new matches pop up and gmail texts it to my phone.

Nice find!!!

Don't do anything to engine or carbs, you may go in circles forever! Depending upon your weight, stiffening up suspension slightly really helps handling.

You gotta be careful with the DVD Players. I knew a guy who put one on his bike but didn't use shock mounts... he just welded the damn thing to the passenger oh-**** handles. The playback skipped like two schoolgirls with a length of rope and the disc feed slot spat down onto the rear sprocket so when a passing redneck would throw a half-full soda bottle at him, it would hit the eject button and next thing you know, he's having to bear the shame of walking out of Hastings with yet ANOTHER copy of "Mr. 3000"...
