Help with oil filter plate
I dropped the oil filter assembly and noticed it is missing the oil filter plate, part number 13169-1313. It looks like a half cylinder that slides over the oil filter.
I am not sure if it is necessary, but it only cost a few bucks. What to the experts think? Thanks |

That piece acts to reduce turbulent flow and insure proper pooling of oil at the pickup piont in the oil sump, helps to prevent bubbles or foaming that might cause cavitation at the oil pump.

Thanks Greg your are the man. I knew it had to do something. For now I put a washer the same size as used between the spring and the filter body. When I get the part I will drop the oil and add it to the top of the filter.
Thanks again. |

That thing called the filter "fence" goes on top of the filter and not the bottom, right?

Yep it goes on top of the filter thereby covering a portion of the top half of the filter.
By the way I used a KN-401. It comes with two large o-rings, neither of which fit. One is way to big and the other is a little to small. So I used the old o-ring which was still just right. Going to have to buy a few oem o-rings I guess. I hate Fram filters, they are cheap but crap. KN better made, but that filter is crossed to many different bikes, atv's, and lawn mowers. |
