Ecu/Cdi differences
Ok for you tech guys here's a legitimate question on the Ecu/Cdi
Here's my logic on the issue I realize that there are different part numbers for different years computers... I was even told that they are different and year specific by a reliable source ... Now here's the way I look at it on 88-07 bikes the wiring harness is the same as well as the motors interchangeable... So if the motors are basically the same and wiring the same why would there be a difference in the cdi....after all the cdi just basically receives a signal from the stator and then tells the coil to fire.... Could the difference be in the stator or possibly the coils logic would dictate no but I could be wrong.. It seems to me that the difference could be internal in the cdi itself ... Possibly different timing settings or spark duration something like that ... And if that is the difference wouldn't one cdi be better than the other . Ie a mod to increase performance.. Or is there really any difference in the cdi at all or is that just a myth... I could be totally wrong here but chime in if you have an idea or let me know what hardcore proof you have to back up the fact that they are specific for each model year |

if i remember right there are slight differences in timing for the newgen vs pregen but the pregens are the same. word on the street is that the -07 cdi is the best

Just baffles me as to why Kawasaki would bother assigning different part numbers if there all the same.... Especially in all the pre gen bikes .. Unless there is a slight difference in the timing curves or something but maybe not enough to notice the difference as a rider

What do u mean @Alex I'm talking pre gen only physically they all look the same just the numbers are different on the cases .. Is it just internal like different components or is it programming on the cdi itself... Do you see what I'm getting at... For example my 95 cdi bad ill put a 06 cdi in and it should work correct...if it does what would the difference be between the two.. Cases the same.. Is it jut internal parts or is the ignition curve and whatnot gonna change

I thought there was a difference from the 94 and earlier, and the 95 and onwards ones. That CDI is where the timing was changed, the revlimiter was changed, etc. Whether it's a physical hardware change, or just a software change on the same hardware; I certainly don't know.

Cool man I understand after all your not a Kawasaki engineer... It would be cool to have an inside track to find if there was a slight (mapping excuse the efi term) difference from one year to the next.. Could work out to be a slight performance gain there depending on what you are trying to accomplish.. But then again it could be nothing at all
