My parallel twin experience

What's up everyone, I am fairly new here and figure I'd give somewhat of an informal intro of me and my half-supersport 296cc bike(2013 Ninja 300 non-abs in Stardust White).

Im V, and my bike is, well, just a bike. I do not name my vehicles or call them her or him, it is an inanimate object with fossil fuels for blood.

Picked it up about 6 weeks ago weeks ago from a pawn shop owner, which probably explains why I got it for dirt cheap. Even came with a warranty(that i did not know about, but more on that later).

It had 848 miles on it when got it. I rode it for exactly one week, then the engine goes boom at 1265 miles. I called Kawasaki and explained how the bike has a loud knock in the engine at 1265 miles, and how this is now a $5000 paperweight. They go through their records and inform me that the original owner has extended warranty until Christmas day 2017, and for me to bring it to the dealer for inspection.

Fast forward 1 month, turns out the bike spun a rod bearing(although i suspect broken rod bolt), and trashed half the engine. They replaced the crankshaft, 1 rod, 1 piston, both rings, and milled the head.

Put almost 300 miles in the past 2 days breaking the engine in. Actually, seating the rings

Pics from when i first got it.

How it sits now. This bike is done with mods. Next mod, is the for sale mod

Digging the Mercedes wheels on the Audi.

And the weirdo color choice on the headlights. Not sure selective yellow really has a place other than fog lights, and that blue is very blue. But if it works for you, then rock it.

I am surprised to hear (or read) you can pawn a vehicle.

Damn... really need to move to the states asap. Got two unused vehicles at my garage!

tnx, thats my 99 turbo a4 quattro, my real love i have to put back together, been slacking on it. Now that you mentioned it, ill whore a few pics lol

as for my headlights, they look better in person, the blue isnt really blue, looks like that in the pic though. its actually super white in person. its a 5k hid 55w, and the high beam is 3k 55w with the yellow film. i live in Florida where kts always foggu3 and rainy, the yellow helps, i ride with both lights on all the time.

Digging the Audi, I'd rock it. Is that the 1.8T?? We had problems with that one.

Ah, I see. 5k is that hairy edge of pure white. I'm rocking 4500k in my retrofit in my car, but my LED fogs are 5000k. I should have matched. I'm thinking of doing selective yellow film on my fogs for foul weather, which is kosher per the law. Just haven't gotten around to buying film for it because I'm lazy and cheap I haven't whored out my car in a while, I'll maybe go do that in the cars thread. Or not.

tnx, and yes, was a 1.8t, will be 2.0 when its put back together. bored/stroked and getting a big turbo. fun cars, its my 4th 1.8t, 5th audi overall. you can say i am an audi fan

i got my film off ebay for $5 shipped. I think the sheet was 16"x48", plenty enough for a few projects.

i didnt know there was a car thread on here, ill find it and check it out. tnx for the heads up

The white Ninja's are absolutely beautiful. There was a white 300 I would drool over at the apartment complex my lady lived in before we got our house. The back end of your bike looks even more sleek and enticing than that one.

so in the 6 weeks i rode the bike, i put about 2500 miles on it so i can compile a list of likes/dislikes about the bike.

main cons to me(6'0 183lbs);
too much of an upright seating position.
rearsets not positioned well for me.
high speed braking is kind of weak.
tires are junk, already had a few moments where i felt the front wanting to give out on a turn.
1st gear is useless.
too much engine interference when getting on/off the throttle.
not powerful enough, used to driving cars faster than this.
doesnt sound like a real bike(4cyl).
feel like i outgrew it already.

pros;
its sexy as fcuk/i get a shti ton of compliments.
60mpg.
seat time on a bike that wasnt too powerful for me.

Balls are fun. My first motorcycle was the '72 Kawasaki H2 that I bought in '78, that I still ride. But once you get used to balls, there are other things just as important. I'd bet money that I could get down to the overlook on the Dragon faster on my 1978 Yamaha DT100 that I could on the H2, for example. And I wouldn't be surprised if I could beat that time on my '05 Ninja 250.

Balls? They've made a solution for that now. This is for bicycles, but I'm sure a moto application wouldn't be too difficult.

yuck. Maybe ran over a grate on a construction zone? I'd guess the really square edge of a grate could cause a little cross-tread nick or cut that could tear and worsen with riding.

Just a guess

Any signs of cracking on the sidewall?

What is the brand and manufacture date of the tire?

The date is 4 numbers in an oval like "3610". First two are the week of the year (36th week) second are the last two digits of the year (2010).

That is pretty serious in my book. I wouldn't ride on it.

its the stock road winners that came with the bike, 3500miles right now. ill check the date when i get home, but id imagine somewhere around late 2012.

i didnt notice anything in the sidewalls and i looked pretty hard. i will double check when checking the date.

sidewall is fine. 3012 is the manufacture date.

do you think its that serious? i can really only get a nail under the center section, and its not even deep.

The tire is over 4 years old and damaged, so I'd replace it.

That is strange damage for sure, but it's significant in my mind.

I think it's for telemetry or equipment, I don't have the service manual to hand. I think you can plug gear indicator kits etc into that.

I'd guess that is where the tread overlaps and it's separating.

whatever it was, its not there anymore. it disappeared within a week.

on another note, sat on a r3 yesterday. boy im glad i made the choice to get the ninja. the r3 seems like a cheap toy. gas tank is skinny as ****, and the bike feels way more upright then mine, like an adventure bike. on another note, sat on a 2016 zx10r, i felt right at home on that joint
