Turn signal problem
This morning before I started my engine, I checked my turn signals and they were fine. Not even before I could exit my neighborhood I noticed that they had stopped working. Just wont come on.
I took it home to do some tests, found that no matter what side I choose, nothing happens; neither the front or back signals flash, and the dash light doesn't blink either. It's really frustrating because not even 5 minutes ago they were fine. So I took the bike apart to get see if the Tridon flasher was the problem, but when I switched it out with the stock flasher I still got nothing. It's like my blinkers are dead. I think I might have a cable loose but idk Anyone know what the problem might be? Last futzed with by ChickenRun; May 30th, 2013 at 12:11 PM. |

i would first try to replace the bulbs, then check the fuses, if neither of those then check wiring, first grounds and then shorts, hope this helps a little

I would also check the fuses first. Assuming you are first owner there are spares located with the rest of the fuses.

Since they all went at the same time sounds like a fuse. But after you replace the fuse, I'd start hunting around to try to figure out what caused it to blow.

Checked the fuses like you guys mentioned, and sure enough the "TURN" was blown. Unfortunately, after replacing it with a new one I still got nothing.
I know this is a n00b question but what would a short look like |

I'm not an electrical wizard so this is only my experience.
When I had a problem, I found my fuse was blown. Replaced the fuse and it popped again. So, dismantled my bike to follow the wiring from each turn signal, through each possible pinch point, to places where I had tapped the wire to add in accessories. Eventually found that I had pinched the wire between two metal parts and the coating around the wire was broken, exposing the inner wire to direct contact with the metal, causing the short. I would ask why do you have the Tridon flasher over the stock? Did you recently change to LEDs or modify your turn signals in any way? Check where you made any connections, or where new wires may be running where old ones never went. You just have to go through the wiring to find out if there is any point that there's a problem.

I'm no electrical guru but from my understanding pinched or exposed cables can cause shorts. The front signals can be accessed and mostly seen just by taking the black side panel off (one screw) but the back might be more difficult.
Also make sure all of the cables are completely plugged in and there's no fraying around the connectors. |

I replaced the stock signals with LEDs a month ago, replaced the stock relay and installed a no-cut diode kit. Everything has been working perfectly until yesterday when the signals decided to just stop out of the blue.
Also the new fuse didn't blow after installation, and the Triton still remains silent (it should still make the blinking noise, even if the signals dont blink, right?) I'll check for pinched wires then, thanks for the help so far. Update: no pinched wires and no shorted wires. Starting to think the problem lies in the switch itself. Is it safe to open it up and take a look? Update: Or maybe something's wrong with the Diode kit? I'll check that first and keep updating this until I find a solution. Update: Neither the switch or the Diode kit showed any problems. I give up. I'm gonna take it to my neighbors motorcycle shop next week to figure out the problem. I'll post the results after I get it back. Last futzed with by ChickenRun; May 30th, 2013 at 12:08 PM. |

Install a much bigger fuse and look for smoke???? Don't do this, BTW

Boy do I feel like an idiot. After fooling around with the relay and fuse box, I unknowingly plugged the relay back in the wrong way. I think I just won the facepalm of the year award. At least I figured it out before taking it to a shop and getting laughed at there.
