06-07 GSXR exhaust swap question.

I hunted down a few threads on this but...

http://www.kawiforums.com/showthread.php?t=125091

I'm planning on going with one of these cans, even though CRX hooked me up with his Riot. I have the GSXR can on the way. I'm wondering about flow with the GSXR can.

The bike is getting an Area P full header, K&N pods, airbox delete, Kleen air delete, FP full rejet and until today, a Riot can. I just like the looks of the GSXR can more. Will it flow enough with the Area P header? Too much? Will I have enough back pressure?

The is getting tuned on a Dynojet.

Thanks all!

realistically it is very very difficult to determine how this will compare for you without other information, flow inside any vessel is determined by several things including pressure, velocity, vessel size, surface attachment, is the flow laminar and in what areas, ect ect ect

now you do have a few things that can help identify cell boundaries. for one you can assume that source flow is the same between setups, and since your using a area p header on both you can set your flow boundary at the silencer joint. from here you need to look at the dimensioning of the two vessels. what are there sizes, lengths, what does the transition look like, what internally does the silencer look like, what mediums are used, ect

from there we can give your some general idea of the expected outcome for flow

I have been looking at this recently... It is definitely something I am interested in trying...especially considering the exhaust would only run $40-100 shipped and the welding next to nothing... As much as I like the area p exhausts, $450 compared to $100 is huge when your as broke as me.

This is all completely above my head.

I'm just curious about the inside diameter of the GSXR can vs the Area P header...

Agreed.

I like the look of the GSXR exhaust better than any I have seen yet. Cheap and close to the frame.

Glorious.

I emailed around to some fabricator/welders to get some quotes. Hopefully I hear back soon. Hoping it at least get the welding done for me, if not the whole thing (as that wouldn't even cost much)

I also don't want to down play area p exhausts here, from the area p (owner?) guy around here he seems like a great guy and they make a really sweet product... but for the people that will never be able to fork out the cash for a nice area p, in their ninja 250 lifetime, I think this is well worth a look.

It shouldn't cost too much at all. If you were close to me, I'd suggest Faster Motorsports in Denver. They are doing the following:

Disassemble body
Remove factory airbox
Remove Kleen air system
Install my supplied K&N pods
Install my supplied FP Stage 3 jet kit
Install my supplied HID kit
Install my supplied Bike Litez Fender eliminator kit with LED blinkers and plate lamp
Install their in stock Lockhart front LED flushmount blinkers
Install my supplied Area P header
Install a can, (GSXR can as of yesterday)
Fab the header and can together
Dyno tune the bike and tune accordingly

...All for about $500

I have more money than I have time or I'd do it all myself, sans the dyno work.

I'll vouch for Area P's quality. It is second to none. I didn't go with a non Area-P muffler/can because of price. It was simply a style preference for me as I like black, small and loud. This is why I picked up CRXTrek's HR1 Riot, although I fell in love with the GSXR look. Looks like there may be a Riot for sale soon.

How much did you pay for your exhaust Conchese? and where did you buy it from? I'm still looking around for a decent deal.. I had a guy quote me just $50 to do the whole installation. (I'm assuming someone who has 15yrs exp with welding/exhausts/fabricating... it isn't going to take him much time at all)

Damn. I was thinking you're getting a solid deal for 5 bills. It seems like a lot of work to me.

$15 bucks. They are all over eBay!

Agreed. I have more money than time, unfortunately. Or is that fortunate?

I'm gonna add the xB footpegs, a new saddle and do the brake lines myself.

If I decide to re-gear, I'll do that myself too. I went and bought a motorcycle jack and rear stand for when I do have some free time to start getting hands on. This bike is my summer commuter so I can't screw it up too much.

Faster Motorsports is trying to talk me out of using this exhaust because they say it doesn't offer enough backpressure. They want me to buy a FMF can from them....

Thoughts on whether the gsxr can is too free flowing?

Interesting. I don't see that it would be if you aren't experiencing any performance issues. Otherwise you could create some back pressure using a bolt (as I have seen a few people with open pipes do) or something.

I can't say about performance issues as the last time I roded it, was when it was stock. It's in pieces at the shop. They will tune for any performance issues on the Dyno. It has a Factory Pro Stage 3 kit and K&N with Airbox delete.

I found a place to pick up universal baffle and fiberglass wrap but I need to know what the inside diameter is of the GSXR can so I can buy the right size...

Anyone?
