Is this a leak? Anyhow, I want it gone

hey guys,
For a while I've had what appears to be a leak, but I don't lose oil what so ever. Does anyone know what causes it, and more important, how to stop it? I hate cleaning that up every time.

Mine does the same also I have found 0 proof of oil being lost..
I figured it is from a lubing the chain... degreaser will clean it off your fairing.

It's oil and it looks like a leak to me.

Can't tell unless I was there, but that would be either oil or stuff coming off your chain.

chain lube flies off into the inside of my chain guard, and lower case, dripping onto my fairings.

if the oil is sticky and greasy feeling then it definitely chain lube that was over applied, or applied when cold.

how much lube do you apply each time you do the chain?

I use a motul racing spray tube (white, sticky stuff)
I ride 100kms of highway two times per week and some weekend trips, total 250 km/week

Every week I apply the lube by letting the bike idle in first gear on a stand, I spray the four sides of the chain for 1 revolution.

So if you think that I use too much lube, than it would be in frequency (once a week) and not how much I put on it when I do it.

What do you think?

Unless you're riding in the rain frequently, it seems like it's way too often. Every 500 - 600 miles is fine (800 - 1000 kilometers).

Ok thank you, I figured as it is racing lube, it would have to be applied more often (once for every race )

When I find time, I will clean the chain guard and lower case and lower my 'lubing frequency'

Yeah, thats definitely chain lube. Pop the cover off your front sprocket, and clean it out. My guess is that it's SUPER crudded up in there. Then use a little less lube, also....after you lube it...wait 15 min for it to cure up a bit before you ride. It won't sling off as much.

If it's flinging that much at the front sprocket you'll be lucky if it hasn't thrown it all over the left side of the back wheel, check that before you go for any sharp lefts.

Your stator cover gasket is leaking. If you look closely enough, you'll see where the cover and engine case meet and where the wires come out. Chances are that silicone sealant (where the wires come out) may need replacing as well. You may want to replace it all ASAP.

If this was wet chain lube it would be all over the kick stand and switch instead

No, those wires are WAY forward of the "leak" shown in his first pic. I vote chain lube.

I highly recommend not lubing the chain while your bike is in gear, or even running.

This has some pretty graphic pictures.

yes I've seen that too already, I keep a distance of about 10 cm between everything that moves and the spraycan.

thanks for your concern though

Lol. I always lube the chain while it's in gear and running. I'm just not dumb enough to GRAB THE FRICKIN' CHAIN while it's turning.
