The best amateur dirt-track racers in America will compete at the 2016 Suzuki AMA Dirt Track Grand Championship, and the best of the best will race for the 2016 AMA Dirt Track Horizon Award.

The award recognizes the rider best prepared for the professional ranks, based on performances at theJuly 1-6 event in Du Quoin, Ill.

Established in 1997, AMA Horizon Awards are presented annually by the American Motorcyclist Association to outstanding riders in the AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship, the AMA Dirt Track Grand Championship and the AMA Road Race Grand Championship.

“The Horizon Award goes to one rider who has clearly demonstrated superior skills as an amateur and is ready to take the next big career step into the professional ranks,” said AMA Track Racing Manager Ken Saillant. “The winner of this award will have earned it, thanks to a dedicated amateur career culminating with the rider’s performance at the AMA Dirt Track Grand Championship.”

In addition to racing for AMA National No. 1 plates, the top competitors vie for the AMA Youth Dirt Track Racer of the Year and the AMA Vet/Senior Dirt Track Racer of the Year. The AMA Fast Brain Award also will be presented at the event.
