Cleaning tar?

My bike's fairings collect a fair number of tar patches through time. What will get it off? I'm a little scared to use Goof-off or similar solvent on the plastic. What does everyone use?

I try to remove tar and bug guts as they happen. If they bake on then it is much harder to remove them.

I used Meguire's scratch remover and it did a great job of pulling off stubborn dirt and tar. Great cleaner, terrible scratch remover lol!

For really baked on stuff like tar, dried tree sap or dead bugs, I've always had success using fabric softner sheets. Take a sheet or two and get it slightly damp then dab/gently wipe over the targeted area. Alternatively you can throw a few sheets into a mister bottle and spray the area and wipe with a microfibre cloth. After you're done, rinse with car wash and apply wax.

WD-40 and mineral spirits work well for tar, even old "baked on" patches. Be sure to clean the area well with regular soap and water first to get rid of grit that otherwise would get caught in your towel and scratch the paint, and remember that the tar itself will have grit in it so be gentle, use a cloth towel, and work only the actual area with the tar instead of grand sweeping wipedowns.

I use wd40 on my wheels/frame/swingarm but use bug and tar remover on well... bugs and tar splatters. I just googled to try and find a picture of it but it's so old google doesn't know what it is. I got it from my dad so it probably causes cancer but damn it works well. Short white bottle with a red label "Bug and Tar Remover".
