GYTR Done!

my buddy with an 08 R6 gave me this GYTR slip on. finished putting it on today. had to get an exhaust pipe adapter but no biggie. after a run around the block it sounds really frickin loud. it seems to backfire every once in a while when i let off the throttle. my next mod will be shimming the needles. i hope that will help out with the backfiring.

The R6 (like the new gixxers) has much of its exhaust volume in a chamber at the bottom of the engine. The end pipe isn't much more than a pipe. Putting just the slip-on on a bike like ours that doesn't have that pre-chamber means it's going to be terribly loud, and not likely to perform well without a whole bunch of tuning.

i dunno, my bike seemed to ride just fine minus the backfire on decel. i was going WOT for a bit, no bogging. i'll ride it to work tomorrow and get a better feel.

Other than the fact that I would trust what comes out of Alex's and Kelly's mouths (or typing as the case may be) from my experience shimming wouldn't get rid of the back firing... however... if you still have the Kleen system installed removing that should help with back firing.

Put it on a dyno and see where you need to tune for best performance.

I thought people said that even straight pipes on our little engine doesn't make much of a difference, hence, the GSXR exhaust tip that more than a few have installed. I'm hard of hearing as it is so I would never do it!
