tail light/undertail question
Hey guys
I was looking at doing a intagrated tail light and a hot bodies undertail. But I wanted to know 2 things. 1. Is it hard to wire both signals to work? Cause I'm not very good with wireing. And I was looking at a diy diode and it looks confusing and hard to do. Or is there something else to do other than the diode? I know the relay will have to bechanged. But the diode confuses me. 2. Could I get the tail light and not hook up the turn signals?? And still hook up the hot bodies ones? Thanks guys for your help |

Check out modmy250.com
I will be looking to purchase front flush mount kit along with the diode kit when I go to an integrated tail light and fender eliminator. |

Hi gsxrninja250,
I installed the Hotbodies undertail a little while back, and I have nothing but good things to say about it. It looks really good, and it's not nearly as hard to install as you might be thinking. If you currently have the stock front indicators, the you have nothing to worry about. Just connect the hotbodies indicators to the old indicator wires and you're ready to go. They even include wire splice connectors in the kit, so you don't need to solder or anything. If you have LED indicators on the front and the back, then you'll need to change the flasher relay and do the diode mod. If you only have the LED lights on the back, then there's no need to worry about it. Check out this thread for my experience: http://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=49212 Cheers, Owen |

Yes, I kept the stock tail light. it just tucks into the new undertail and gets wedged up against the frame which holds it in place.

Check your local laws before you wire up those built in undertail LED signals, some states have laws dictating how far apart the turn signals must be to remain legal.

Hi Kurgan,
That point often comes up during undertail / fender discussion, but not once have I ever heard of anyone being pulled over for something as absurd as that. With the hotbodies undertail, the two indicators are large and far apart enough that they are not ambiguous, and can clearly be seen. I have been pulled over with it on (for an "unsafe" pass) and the officer didn't even give my bike a second look. Perhaps if you kludged two little white LEDS on either side of your brake light and caused an accident as a result, then I could see a police officer getting his ruler out, but anything short of that and people are just being paranoid. I'd bet a solid $20 that most officers would have no idea what the distance actually is off-hand, and that means they'd have to go look it up, and then somehow measure your indicators to make sure they actually aren't the correct width. That's just not going to happen. The best way to stay out of trouble is to not ride like a jackass, and treat other motorists with respect. If you do those two things, you'll never have to worry about how far apart your indicators are. Cheers, Owen |

Good rule of thumb is license plate width apart....
As long as they are visible and give a decent intention of turn direction you will probably never be bothered by anyone but the most anal.
