What Resolution Do You Watch Youtube In?

Just curious what resolution you guys watch. If an overwhelming amount of people either don't watch 1080p or just watch videos in the web browser then I'll probably stop editing and uploading in 1080p, unless its a particularly badass video, and just do 720p. It's easier to edit lower res videos and they take up less space on the HDD.

Well yes this current one is already edited in 1080 so it gets the special treatment. But for future stuff, I might just film in 720p

Typically, I click 720 which is good enough for the videos I watch, but if it's a video that's a little more involved, then 1080. 1080 takes forever to process fully on youtube (they really need to work on that and their compression).

I got by time. Under 3 minutes, I don't really care. After that it gets fullscreen at the highest res provided. Preferably 1080 if it's hooked up to my TV.

i watch in the "large screen" option. Mainly because i like doing other **** while my brain is consuming information from the video. always the highest quality ofc. Once i buy another 23" screen i'll prolly watch em in full screen.

depends what im lookin at though.

because of the mountains and area here I offer in 1080P, but editing takes much longer. I find most people watch 720p or use the auto setting in youtube. I miss the days of 720p editing.

I click play unless it starts buffering, in which case I lower it to the best speed at which I don't have to wait.

I never watch in HD because I don't watch on a monitor that supports it.

As much as I would love to watch videos in the highest quality possible, I'm usually using internet that can't support it and have to settle for default quality. When I do have decent internet though, definitely 1080p, although 720p is still plenty good enough for me. Always full screen for HD videos.

720P
I make all my videos in 720p but i use the best codecs i can with Youtube and they look good even on my 60 inch LED screen though my Apple TV.

I think it's all about the editing codecs you're all using.

SEE:
www.youtube.com/DmentedSound

if you look at my earlier videos the quality SUCKS, even if they were 1080P.... but now i'm a little better with codec selection my 720P vids look good.

While I am on my phone, the low res sucks so I usually force my browser to be 720 or 1080 whatever is available. When on the computer or iPad always HD.

Highest resolution available, and depending on other things going on, full screen or at least the large player.

144p. I have the SH!TTIEST internet ever. So overpriced for what it is.
I live in a apartment complex. There's no fios and there's not many options. I pay $50 for 1.1 to 3 mbps... Which seems to never exceed 1.1 mbps. That's when it's working.

Youtube? forget about it. Max I can watch is 360p and that's when it doesn't stop loading for no apparent reason. Then you click the time indicator thing once or twice and it loads another 5 seconds.. Then stuck again...

I can't wait to f*cking move and get decent internet wherever I end up.

From My memory, this is my process...

GoPro records in 720p60 mode.
I change from .Mp4 to Apple ProRes 422 (LT) .Mov
Then I conform it to 30fps on my mac
Then I speed it back up in Final Cut Pro (that way I can slow mo if needed without loss)
I stay in 720p, 16:9 1280x720 The entire time.

I make my music in Logic Pro and i export to Acc files (instead of wav or mp3)

SO i take all that and once my video and edits are don i export with these settings.

Audio Codec: AAC-LC
Stereo + 5.1 (for my living room )
Sample rate 48 khz

Video Codec: H.264
Progressive scan (no interlacing)
Color Space: 4.2.0

So I edited the footage in FCP 9 (The sequence settings to match the footage) and exported out for the web with h.264 codec at 1280x720.

Ok ok but! Doesn't youtube then convert it to mp4? I figured it would be easiest to just leave everything in mp4 files

Mp4 is not an editable container, it is a compressed delivery method.

From Youtube support website, Youtube says the best container format is MPEG 2, MPEG 4, or FLV (with a MPEG 2 or a H.264 coded {usually in many MP4 videos). YouTube also recomends no frame rate blending and has no recommends on video bitrate. For audio, Youtube recommends AAC or MP3 in the preferred containers disclosed above with a sampling rate of 44.1kHz in stereo.

so as previously stated I use .Mov with AAC.

I do mine in 1080 and in Vimeo they automatically make it 720 unless I check that I want 1080. Youtube, when I use it, I also do 1080 and let user decide what will work on their computer.

But Darren knows his shizzle and is correct :thumbup

Thanks, but so do you since you use Vimeo... lol

+1 on using Vimeo since it has less restrictions... (althought Vimeo frowns upon the moronic behavior of urging strangers to "CHECK OUT MY VIDS." ) they rolled out 'stats' (the advanced statistics package for Vimeo Plus and Vimeo PRO users) feature for paying users. I don't want to pay for it so i'm i'm Youtube fo life!... lol

also, there are always ways for the youtube video to automatically select HD settings and what not.
