Danmoto to baffle or not to baffle...

Those with Danmoto, did you install baffle or not?

How much does it suppress the sound?

TIA

with the baffle its noticeably quieter. I ended drilling another hole in the baffle to make it a touch louder for my liking though.

EDIT: i dont have a db meter but it is that noticeable

More notably than the volume difference, I like the tone of it better with the baffle in. Without, it's not only louder, it's also a lot of high end frequencies that pierce and it sounds very metallic. The baffle gives it some girth, cuts out those piercing highs, and gives it some aggression in the mids; a much more appealing tone.

well said. even with the hole i drilled in the baffle, it has the same volume as the baffle in, but slightly louder

EDIT: @massacremasses: 120db?...damn. I ride without earplugs in town and plugs in for long rides or and freeway riding so i should be good :P

Yes, 120dB SPL. And at that volume, you can only listen to a sound source for 10-15 minutes before permanently damaging your hearing. I suggest you always wear earplugs if you have a Dan Moto exhaust.

I choose to use the baffle for the tone reasons I described above more than volume reasons. The volume decrease is a nice bonus though.

I dont wear ear plugs but I will from now on.... I just need to find some that fit well. The ones I can snag from work dont do that well in a helmet.

If you're looking for earplugs, give this a try.

yeah I may get those or do the waxy type ones. I liked using those for shows when I used to go to them and dance in the pit.

Def wear earplugs. I have Tinitis from my 2 stroke younger days. Right ear ALWAYS ringing...get used to it but sometimes it gets bad and bothersome.

I find that musician grade earplugs work nice. They usually block more high frequencies, but you can still hear and talk to people with them in.

Do you know if there is a way to reduce the sound even more.

I looked up some motorcycle exhaust baffles online and also some packing material.

Has anyone out there made there own rig?

Last week Friday my neighbour come out to tell me that my exhaust is too loud (Danmoto Carbon GP), the same day leaving work several of my co workers texted me to tell me that my exhaust is too loud. I ordered a baffle for it, I should be receiving it sometime this week. Reading through a few posts do I really need to hammer it into the exhaust? Does it come with installation instructions?

I had to hammer mine in. Otherwise, it would have just wiggled around in there.

Put the baffle on seriously. Souds better not so much as just an empty can. And also just my expirence. I rode with my carbon gp for month with no baffle daily. And once I installed the baffle I actually notices a slight pick up on my acceleration

Agreed on put the baffle in. It really does sound better. I was wondering why another 250 in my area sound so bad (but look so pretty) when he screamed past my apartment. I also wondered why it was freakin so loud. No baffle, that's why. Without the baffle it really doesn't sound any better than a 2-stroke scooter without a muffler, in my opinion.

I have put several thousand miles with the Dan Moto with the baffle in. It's bearable at highway speeds and no earplugs, as the wind will do you in first. With earplugs in, it sounds even better with all sounds attenuated.

Thanks Bad Bwoy007. It sucks that I am going to have to remove the exhaust can and midpipe to fit the baffle

Oh well - thanks again for the installation instructions

It's not that bad.

I pulled off the springs last night to make sure it was seated tightly.

I took my socket wrench and pushed the handle in forcefully and reconnected.

Took less than 10 minutes.

i noticed a slight increase in acceleration in mine as well when I put mine in. But the sound is a preference thing, I bought baffle with my exhaust when I got it back in July and never put it in till now and I wish I would have the day I got it. Sounds alot better

I got my Danmoto in today...the funny thing is that my baffle doesn't even look like that. It's already welded into another pipe that your supposed to slip in the one end. They need to update their pics.
