Kickstand after it's been cut off?
One of many dumb question threads...
Rule book says cut off the kickstand bracket - it's welded to the frame. Anyone have figured out an alternative way to mount a kickstand solution so the bike will be a) streetable if needed, b) re-sellable if needed as a street bike. Obviously at the track it's all about race stands, so no need for it. I have a welder so in theory I could weld it back on later, but would be nice to have a more flexible solution. |

Interested also...
I cut mine off in a way that it can be welded back on. The trick I think is to cut it off cleanly and straight just above the bend in the tab. I thought about drilling & tapping some holes to just be able to bolt it on but figured that was more work that needed, since it would require a flange to be welded to the cut off part anyway.

Indeed I was also thinking about fabing a flange or a mounting plate of some sort... I wish there was a way to mount enduro style kickstand, but there isn't much down there on a Ninja to clamp to.

i use a dirtbike triangle kickstand that fits into the hold created by a crash in my woodcraft rearsets on my 250 race bike. i commute on that bike like that about 2500 miles a month.

I was thinking removing the round frame plug and using removable stand would work too. Still, something mounted to the bike that works more or less like stock kickstand would be infinitely better.

OK so where are options I came up with:
1) Swing arm mount like the setup used in dirt bikes. ~$85, still would have to figure out what clamp size / kickstand length works best. 2) Dirt bike bolt on kickstand designed to use foot peg mounting point. Would likely require a custom mounting bracket. 3) U shaped clamp on, (or weld on) to the flat section of the frame above rearset. Base parts from #1 or #2 with custom clamp or mounting point. Frame mount options are better since they do not add unsprung weight, but I think would be more work. Obviously anything where welding is involved is a lot more work. |

I don't think of welding as work... It's fun, till ya get a job doing it, but "jobs" are the downfall of humanity

I don't mind welding, it's the prep and then painting everything.

Possible to get pics of your kickstand mount solutions? @csmith12, @alex.s, @bitaria.
I scraped kickstand mount going around a downhill corner at The Ridge in August. Thought it was only the footpeg until I watched the video and realized that the push back was too great for just the peg. I would like to avoid repeating the same thing but also having the bike available for off-track rides as well. Thanks! Quote:

I can take a pic of my cut but I haven't welded a side stand mount solution that will work for off track applications yet. If I figure something creative out I will post up for sure.

A picture of the cut would be a help at the moment. Three weeks to track day and I'm leery of catching it again.

Cut straight as possible to make the weld easy.

it sits on the kickstand like this... it works really well for dirt.
sometimes it doesn't like physics though. most of the time i leave the kickstand on the tail and simply lean the bike on something
