new bike - 2008 Yamaha R6

I picked up a new bike last Saturday. It's a brand new 2008 R6. I was shocked the dealer still had an '08 in stock and needless to say, with it being almost 2 years old, it was priced pretty nicely! My first ride on it, was driving it the 90 miles home from the dealer.

I'm getting more and more use to it every day and liking it even more. I love the looks, love the sound and of course love the power.

All I have with me right now are crappy cell phone pics.

Shes a beaut. I can see your 250R in the background, what are the plans for that?

I'm going to try to sell it. I've posted it on a local board so far, but haven't put much effort into selling it other than that.

Thanks for the comments. I love the black/gold color combo as well. The '08 has this dark gold color while the '09s had a brighter gold.

The bike was $6,794 and then they had a $94 doc fee and then on top of that TN sales tax. I also added the 4 year YES warranty and gap coverage. I can't remember exactly what OTD was, but it was close to$7,900, but could of been much cheaper without the warranty and such.

I had originally called the dealer on a Thursday and verified the price on their website ($6,794). When I showed up on Saturday they said the price was $7,4xx. I told them I had just called a few days before and the price was $6,794. He explained that their deals change daily and that the rebate was no longer offered. I guess the manager over heard and said I could have the $6,794 price if I did the deal that day and I did. They still have one '08 in stock. It's silver which I didn't like as much as the black. They have it listed at the higher $7,4xx price now.

I kept watching a used 08 R6 in silver at my local dealer with 600 miles. Guy bought it new and traded it soon after for FZ6R. That went out the door for $6,300 +tax just last week. IMO that sharp lines of that bike look best in raven black or silver, with no graphics. Local dealer has an abundance of 09 R1 and R6 in all colors.

I have the 09 SE, but I'm still a newbie. I just did the 600 mile service, so I'm not looking to upgrade any time soon. I'm just curious though, any reason for going Yamaha over the other three? Other than the good deal on that one?

I don't know about Matt F but I have been riding around on an o1 r6 that I just finished fixing for a buddy and I may be buying an 08 r6 I really like the way it rides and how it fits me I have been riding all of my buddies bikes like an 09 Daytona,2000 vfr,03 929, 01 gsxr 1000,03 r1 and the 01 r6. the r6 is just to nice, but my local dealership has an 08 zx-6 for $6700 I have been looking at

Buy it !!! I love mine.

as for choosing a bike ,the competition is so close for each brand that they are really close in fit and performance, just pic the one that looks the best to you.

For me, price had a lot to do with it. I was looking at '09 ZX-6R's and found some goods deals. I almost made the drive to go get one, but then I found the '08 R6 and the price was right, so I had to jump on it. From what I've read, the '08 R6 is better than the '09. The '09 ZX-6R is supposed to be really nice though and won top honors in every 2009 600cc shootout that I read.

I'm almost to 600 miles on the R6.

while i agree with the performane statement (especially with us mortals at the helm), i completely disagree on fit. i loved the way the kawi i bought felt, and the cbr; but did not like the way the yami felt at all or the way i sat on the zuk. they each have a unique feel to them and i highly suggest sitting on all to figure what you like the most

Nice...Congrats on the buy! I dont have a 600, but I sat on a couple of them and the ones that got my attention are the Honda CBR600RR and the Suzuki 600. What got me liking those was the way the seating/positioning felt. They didnt feel as wide as the Kawi ZX-6 and the Yama R6. The Kawi and the Yama also felt a bit bigger. Thats what persuaded me! Then again price is a big factor!!! Either way you got yourself a nice bike, and all that matters is you like it! Ride Safe!

Nice bike. I really like the 08 Ravens.

I sold my '04 R6 a few months after I bought my 250R. Funny how different we all are.
