New bike

Took delivery of my 2009 Suzuki GSX-R 750 today . Put about 80km on it this afternoon; wow what a bike and I'm not just talking about the power/acceleration, it's the whole package. Still a long way until I come to grips with it, but I'm thinking it's definitely love at first sight.
Roll on Sunday

Less crappy pics to follow just as soon as the batteries on the camera recharge

Very nice! Did you keep the 250? Also, are you changing the exhaust? That was the only thing that turned me off about the bike. But, it is beautiful. I fell in love with the pearl white one. Gorgeous!!!

Thanks Andre. No, sadly the Ninja had to make way for the the Gixxer as I coudn't afford both. The only thing I've got planned for it is a new slip-on, the Yoshi R-55 is on back order. I was in two minds about the exhaust, I'm not a fan of the OEM muffler but that said it's not too hideous, it's more about the note of the exhaust rather than the look for me.

I've got a bit of reading to do with the owners manual re the running process, and now I'm just waiting on the weather forecast to see how I'm looking for my ride on Sunday

G'day Mike, big week-end in your part of the world with the GP this weekend. Only what I said previously, and then it's really just a matter of coming to grips with the bike and just enjoying it.

Yeah the GP is going to be exciting especially since Webber actually has a chance.

So how does the gixxer feel on the road compared to the 250R? Hows the response? The seating position? And are you going to actually run it in how the manual tells you to or the "ride it like you stole it" way.

Just had a look at the odometer and I've put on 106km since 1.00pm today just riding around the 'burbs so it's hard to compare with the 7000km I put on the Ninja but first impressions are: (Note some of these will be statements of the bleeding obvious, and none should be viewed as a criticism of the Ninja a bike I have a lot of affection for )
It's more planted on the road, it feels very stable.
It's ergonomically very well set out with controls falling to hand easily.
The gearbox is a beauty; just snick, snick, snick up and down.
Obviously much torque-ier (is that a word?).
Seating position is ideal; I've got my arms slightly bent and I don't feel uncomfortable at all, no back issues etc although some pressure on my hands but I think that's something that experience and experimentation will cure.
Strangely enough I felt more buffeted at 100km plus than I did on my Ninja and I'm not sure if thats imagination or maybe my double-bubble screen on the Ninja really did work. I just found it a little surprising.
I'll run it in as per the manual for a couple of reasons: Firstly I don't want any warranty issues if something goes wrong; also I'm still a novice rider with only twelve months experience and I don't want to confuse ambition with ability. Blasting around the streets of Brisbane is just a recipe for disaster so I'll ease my way into things. I want to be a VERY old sportsbike rider

Thanks mate; truth be told it was a bit of a darkhorse to replace the Ninja. The Daytona and ZX6-R were ahead of it on my list, but the Triumph sales manager royally pissed me off (and Suzuki couldn't have been more helpful) and I didn't feel comfortable on the ZX6-R (I'm not tall enough); the R6 felt nice but I don't think I could have ridden it for long and the CBR600RR is also quite nice but around here everybody's got one.
Price was a factor, as was service on the part of the dealer, also an element of exclusivity (for a mass-produced bike) in that they seemed to sell lots of GSX-R 600s and 1000s but not so many 750s. It just seemed like a good compromise at a reasonable price. I guess time will tell but at the moment I couldn't be happier.

I sat on a used 2008 GSXR750 and was pleasantly surprised by the ergo's. I am 5'9. If I am correct it is basically the 600 frame with a narrow 750 motor? Suz must be doing something right filling the gap between a 600 and a 1000.

I'm 177cm, about 5' 9 and a bit I guess. It just seemed to fit right, my feet are flat on the ground and it felt very comfortable, the bike pretty much sold itself to me. As far as I can tell it's the 600 with a slightly larger motor, at least that's what everyone I speak to here tells me. Or to put it another way it has the handling of the 600 with a bit more power. A mate of mine at work, who's a long-time rider described it as a "purists" bike. Australian Road Rider 2010 Bike Guide describes it like this:" Almost a quarter-century of careful honing has brought the GSX-R 750 to its current state of near-perfection. Shrewd judges the world over describe the current 750 as the pick of the GSX-R breed - and it's certainly seen off all its 750-class opposition. The last word in 750 sports bikes. Sublime."
I'm not in a position to make those kind of comparisons/recommendations, but those kinds of remarks reinforce my belief that I bought the right bike for me.

The amazing thing is even though its 750 competition is gone (closest I guess would be 675 or 848) Suzuki still produces a winner. Too bad the sport oriented VFR is gone, as well as 750 ninja, and FZ. Buddy of mine still has his FZ750 with the 5 valve heads.

Funnily enough Greg I looked at both the Triumph Daytona 675 and the Ducati 848. The Triumph I dismissed for a couple of reasons, one as outlined above. I had coveted one for so long it wasn't an easy decision to make.
The Ducati, well I've got a mate who rides Dukes and he was dead keen to see me on one. So I had a look at an 848 when the Bike Show was in town and I must admit I was quite taken by it. Unfortunately the AUD $24,000 price tag was well out of my reach, and my wife said I looked small on it. And that really hurt!!

Cool deal, nice bike. The Suzuki 750 is basically the bike that killed all others in competition to the point where they're the only game in town for the 750 sport bike market!

Be careful getting used to it, it's about 4X the motor that your 250 had!

Have you had a chance to read the owner's manual and dial in the suspension some? It makes all the difference in the world!!! Changed the nature of my ZX6R completely.

I'm treating the throttle with a good deal of respect, and keeping an eye on the speed. The Highway Patrol here target bikes with lasers and also speed-cameras fixed and mobile and I can lose all three of my licenses (Car, Truck and Bike) in the blink of an eye on this bike, so I'm very wary of the power/speed aspect. I've got a clean license, haven't lost any points in over 12 years and not planning to change that.
Read the owners manual this morning, but won't be toying with the suspension just yet. Going to run the bike in, feel my way along and see what comes along with suspension settings. Thanks for the link too.

It just seemed like great bang for my buck and a good compromise on everything in terms of power/weight etc. I had a mate trying very hard to get me onto a Gixxer 1000, but I thought it was much more bike than I could handle. As I've said before time will tell if I've made the right decision but at the moment I'm loving it.

I love the way the Gixxer exhaust looks!!! If I ever get one I'll probably find a way to pull the baffles out to make it louder and keep it stock.

Great choice and probably less maintenance than the 675 or 848. Have fun.

That is one sextacular bike! Congrats!

I'm a little lukewarm on that weird plastic bit they have draped over the font of the tank, though.

Oh Suzuki's 750 motors are visceral things! Very tame, controllable low ends, powerful top ends, and the induction noise...oh my the noise.

I love my old 750. It's a MILF....so to speak.

I love the induction noise too strangely enough, you can hardly hear the exhaust note (although that'll change when the Yoshi arrives); if yours is a MILF, what does that make mine?
