Sold the Ninjette

On a whim, I ended up selling my '08 Ninja last weekend after putting 5500+miles on it. It sold much quicker on Craigslist than I had thought. I bought it used for $2.7k and sold for $3k four years later. I learned a lot on the bike and have no regrets. It was fun riding a slow bike fast.

So I'm now without a bike. I'm looking at getting either a used Monster 696, 796, or a Triumph Street Triple ( with the Preying Mantis lights). I'm 5'-7 with a 28" inseam (29" on a good day). New is an option as well, esp. if I get the Triumph. I am intrigued by the Duc, but not so much with respect to the high maintenance and pricey aftermarket. Anyone have in-site between these 3?

The street triple is sexy and I want one Sorry I don't have more input than that haha.

If you try one out though, share how it feels. I have about the same inseam.

Thanks. I may have to try out my cousin's STR. He has the bug-eye light version. I'm going to be checking out some used 696 Monsters tomorrow for viewing. The ones in Craigslist (In LA) are ones that has been dropped or been involved in a minor accident. There are dealers that sell used Ducs but, I'm figuring at the price point its better to buy new. Argh...This might take a while.

Street Triple R for sure! I rode a 2010 monster 696 and the street triple is a much better bike overall imo. The monsters are nice bikes though.

So I did some test riding today both the Monster 696 and Street Triple.

Monster 696
- Very good low end torque.
- Slipper Clutch is something to get use to
- Brakes are really good.
- Flickable
- Seating is more forward and is really comfortable

STR
- Smooth linear power
- Brakes felt not as responsive compared to the Duc
- More upright riding
- More flickable than Duc.

So I ended up with the Duc Monster 696 ABS. The price I got was too good to pass up. It got delivered today. The engine sounds so nice. I may not need an exhaust (for now)

Cool Ducati! Very nice looking bike. Congrats on the new ride. I love getting a different bike when I do, it's always so much fun.

Is that a real Ohlins rear shock on it already?

Sean,

Congrats!!! I made the jump from the Ninjette to a M696 ABS earlier this year and could not be happier with the baby Monster. I commute on her, plus weekend joy rides on backroads, and find it the perfect mix of flickability, power and sexyness. . I have just a little over 4000 trouble free miles on her so far.

Mine was a bike night demo that came with the Termies as well some other goodies, and yes, you can't beat that sound

I see you are in SoCal as well; did you buy at Newport Ducati by any chance?

Many safe miles on your new baby!

Ducatis look like sex.

Triumph triples sound like sex. The good kind.

You put over 5500 miles on and sold it for more than you bought it for

Haha... I wish they were the Ohlins. The rears are actually stock Sach's suspension(has adjustable rebound damping and preload). The forks are Showa's, non-adjustables. The 1100 EVO has the Ohlins and adj. fronts.

Thanks OC. The stock sound is so nice. I'm afraid of getting an exhaust since its so effing loud (in a good way) stock, esp. in my driveway. Definitely way louder than my STi.

How did you guess? Yes. I got it at Newport Beach Ducati. They (Aaron) gave me the best deal in Socal. The drive from the Southbay was far but so worth it. Mine had 5 miles on her. Insurance was double than the Ninjette, but still affordable ($300 semi-annual, full coverage)

The mod bug has already begun. Do you find the seat to be uncomfortable? My gonads was not like it at all. I'm planning on buying the DP low seat tomorrow. The stock mirrors are useless. Can't see squat. I'll probably buy the CRG bar end mirrors, and frame sliders. Down the road I'm planning on switching over to Ohlins (and go and get it setup).

Haha..Go figure. I bought the bike from a friend of a friend who's an orthopedic surgeon who had a stable of bikes in his garage. This was suppose to be for his son, but the son thought that girls were more important So I bought it. The new owner is supposedly planning on converting this to a track only bike .

It was $11.2k OTD. I'm sure most could have gotten better deals but the supply was limited for the new ones.

The longest I've been in the seat one day was about 6 hours, with an hour lunch and two fill up stops. I started to fell my behind toward the very end of that ride, but for my daily commute and usual weekend fun rides (60 to 180 minutes normally), I find the seat plenty comfortable. I have Speedymoto sliders, both frame and axles and I think they look great. Agreed that the stock mirrors are not great, but can' get myself to put bar ends on. Need to do some research before I touch the stockers. Ohlins would be nice, but probably a waste of money for my current riding skills.

Did you already look at tail tiddy's? Mine came with the Ducati kit and I think it looks awesome.

Lastly, good luck with the silver stickers on the frame. A couple came off in one piece, but others were not so lucky. Definitely use a lot of heat.....

I got mine from Newport as well and also from Aaron. I found them the best to deal with in the area.

Enjoy your Italian beauty!
