Slow down, punk!

So coming home tonight, I get stuck behind what I immediately assumed to be an elderly driver. He was floating in between two lanes and going well under the speed limit. I kept him in front of me since my turn was coming up and I was hoping he would continue straight. He did not and proceeded to drift into my right turn lane, still in front of me. So as we reach the right turn and a green light, he proceeds to come to a complete STOP for a good 5 seconds. Still, I was patient and I waited for him to figure it out. He makes the turn and begins to float in between both lanes again. So once he decides what lane he wants, I pass him to the left. In second gear. Doing the speed limit.

Now I do have a Jardine RT-5. And his windows were down. So it probably sounded like I was doing 150MPH. When his car catches up to me at the next light, I see an old man, probably well into his 80's, with one, maybe two teeth and THICK glasses and he says in a shaky voice- "Tell me something son...why don't you try...honoring the speed limit?" I just stare at him for a few seconds without saying a word (with my mouth anyway). The light turns green, I turn left as he goes straight and I'm on my way.

All I could think on the ride home was you've got to be effing kidding me. I have plenty of respect for the elderly, but not the incompetent ones on the road. It was probably for the best that the light changed as fast as it did. Someone probably would have had to call the cops if it didn't, because I would have answered his question and then some.

Sorry for the rant. Here's a related video for those that read this far

EDIT: Can't embed the video, so if someone wants to, feel free. Now look who's old!

How fast was he initially going when you stuck behind him at the beginning of your story? Did you pace him and see what you were indicating? What was he driving? This story is kinda sparse on detail.

On the first Rd, the speed limit is 45MPH. I looked down at my speedo and it showed 40MPH when I rolled off throttle to not get any closer to him.

Well him taking me out was never really a concern. I wasn't going to put myself in a position to give him the chance. It was just his behavior after I watched him do several things wrong that shocked me. He had the nerve to try to get smart with me because of what he perceived with his ears, probably more so than with his eyes.

A 100 year old guy jumped the sidewalk and took out 11 kids at a school in Cali.

If any driver looks unsafe you should call the cops and save some lives.

I've been told to slow down doing 5 under the speed limit, in a neighborhood.

In a Kia. A beige four-door Kia.

People are ass hats no matter where you go or what you're driving. The important thing to remember is that after you pass them they're out of your life forever

I'm getting less respect for >80 year old drivers. I wouldn't have been able to contain myself. I wouldn't have lost control but I would have told him straight up he was going 5 under the speed limit so maybe he should pay a bit more attention.

One time I was going 30 in a 25 and this guy who was pulling into his driveway saw me coming so he backed out into the middle of the street pretty much blocking the whole thing. I stopped and he looked at me and then he pulled back into his driveway.

So I came back later and took a **** on his car. Assholes like **** right? Hope he enjoyed it

1) it's a speed limit, not a minimum speed. 5 under is perfectly legal. That does not excuse the drifting between lanes, but come on people, just find a safe place to pass and do so, and be on your merry way.

2) 45 mph (~50 indicated) in 2nd gear is very high in the rpms. You don't need to blast his ears out in town just to get around him. You could be in 4th or 5th and pass an aging Buick easily.

3) whatever, he's just a disgruntled old man. Pass him and be done with it. No need getting all uppity about it. All that does is raise your blood pressure.

I agree, no problem with 5 under and we were in the far right lane. When I passed him once we had turned on the side street, the speed limit was 30 and I was in second gear. I didn't go WOT, just passed him. I didn't make that clear in the post because my blood pressure was boiling while typing.

Understood. Sometimes operating a vehicle on a public roadway can be a very trying experience. Try and relax when things like that happen.

Pull off and take a break if needed. It's better than being so angry that you can't make clear decisions.

I pass those kind of people all the time. When I had my 600 they would always freak out on me like I was going 200 mph when I maybe went 10 faster than them

I remember coming into my neighborhood with the RPMs up high, but doing the speed limit. For a few days a man would yell at me that I was riding too fast. I always said I was doing the speed limit. I finally got sick of it and rode by at 10 MPH bouncing my bike off the rev limiter asking him "HEY MAN, HOW FAST DO YOU THINK I'M GOING!?!?!" He shook his head with a pissed look and went inside. Haven't heard from that goon since.

Morons associate noise with speed. They're babies.
