Because the Akrapovic is $900 for my bike...and the arrow is $400

But the carbon fiber Yoshimura sounded amazing on my ninja!

Nostalgia. Sometimes when I ride my bike, I want to be reminded of the good ol days when I worked at sweat shops using a sewing machine 14hrs a day.

Maybe cause slip ons make it sound like someone is beating a cat in a burlap sack? Why take perfectly good motorcycles and make them sound like trash. Bleh, no thank you.

Course, I prefer the 300 pipe to the 250 pipe, but only for looks. Didn't change the sound one bit.

because if I get one I want power gains which means I need a power commander too

works out to be the same cost as 4-5 track days...

If I get one it will be entirely your fault that I am happy with the way my bike sounds

while that's true, it tends to be much better for the person actually riding it than the people trying to sleep

So instead of just an angry weedwhacker, you now have an amplified angry weedwhacker?

it actually changes the characteristic of the sound completely, it doesn't sound like a lawnmower anymore with some good pipes it'll sound like a beast

especially the 650, the difference is shocking though I haven't heard the arrow exhaust yet I've heard a yoshimura pipe on there and stock and it was a big difference

Oh OK so not a weedwhacker but a pissed hornet...

Naw, much prefer the stock. Can actually have a conversation with it running and don't suffer nose bleed ear torture when riding.

I had to because mine fell/broke off from too many lowsides at the track. Lost the can somewhere in BFE.
Too broke for the 18" Area P.
I like the quietness of the stock heavy POS can.
I miss the performance of the race can.
Unfortunate mutual trade-off here.

Maybe I have a problem with authority. Maybe the people who said "this is the appropriate size exhaust for this engine" don't share the same perspective as me.

This is from an engineering standpoint.

Because if you want to actually improve the riding experience there are better ways to spend money (e.g. suspension, better tires, better brakes, track time, instruction).

Because there are times when loud and obnoxious is not to your advantage. Did a track day yesterday and got word that it is likely there will be noise restrictions at Palmer in the near future. Bikes with loud pipes will not be permitted, period.

Because loud pipes don't save lives. They make people want to shoot you.

Cause I don't think $600 for a cooler sound is worth it. And the power gains are near zilch. And really, even a stock motorcycle is freaking LOUD, do you need louder?

Now if I could get an affordable exhaust that gave the bike a cooler deeper sound without making it louder then I'm on board.

Such a thing doesn't exist for my FZ-07 or the 250, alas.

$$$ and the fact that not all exhaust manf. do what Area P did for this bike and offer a "quiet core" option that doesn't drop off the performance gain. I have gotten a bit to the point where I don't want a killer loud exhaust, just too noisy. And if I don't gain some performance - definitely not going on the bike.

Modern exhausts on more vehicles are actually pretty decent these days, back in the late 90s and early 00s you could put a slip on a bike and pick up 5 or 6 whp and drop 10 lbs. Now its like 1 or 2 whp and 4 lbs. And they cost $600.

If companies would make a quieter (less than 100 dB at chat) full exhaust for less than $1K that actually dropped weight and made power, they would be on all my bikes. Both my 250s have Area P full exhausts, the street bike has a quiet core 18 and the track bike a standard length. They are GREAT products.

I have said this before about other engines: The engineers know what they are doing, but the EPA does not.

I have a full yoshi on mine. My wife's bike is stock. But I added a yoshi slip-on for her.

i guess we just like the noise

Funny part is someone once pointed to her stock exhuast manifold and questioned if that was part of the bike frame lmao!

Pretty common around here, with all the Harleys with straight pipes, so chances are you won't get a ticket for the noise.

It's more the fact that you are announcing your arrival at speed.

Money. Huge cost for a little vanity, especially if it's a slip on. I regret ever buying a slip on. Also I actually really hate loud noises. Go figure right? I only justified my last purchase cuz I crashed and destroyed the slip on. Got the Area P quiet core system used and the PCV for a good deal so it satisfied the cost and noise issue enough for me. Overall not a high priority for me though. I don't care that much about my bike sounding "cool."

My bike with a Area P 18" race system is quieter than most stock 1000cc bikes but it sounds awesome and makes great power.

Some bikes have the cats as part of the muffler so you do gain HP, including the bike I'm waiting for the title for.

1. It is illegal in most areas to remove said pipe.
2. Your neighbors don't think you sound cool and in fact find it annoying most of the time
3. Its not going to save your life. You be better of using the money on a good riding class.
