gas mileage

What kind of gas milage is everyone getting on their bikes? I have an 09, I don't know what I am doing wrong, I am only getting about 40 mpg, sometimes less.

I am filling up. Resetting the trip odometer. Then when I fill up again, I divide the number of gallons by the number of miles on the trip odometer.

55-60mpg on my 08. If your getting 40ish mpg you either have an insatiable need for speed or a fuel issue you need to get checked out, i.e. plugs fouled, carbs gunked up, etc.

When I voted i calculated the L/100kms then I converted that by online converter to US MPG. I did this over 3 fills.

Now I have a Roadtrip application on my iPod where I enter the odo reading at fill, fuel amount in L and I can set it to show me the US MPG, UK MPG, L/100km etc etc. This so far is over 6 fills and has only varied between 47 and 48.9MPG with 47.95 being the average so far.

My 2008 gets about 45-48 in the city stop-n-go traffic of my commute.
I get about 55-58 out on the open highway.
Yes, it is running fine and there are no fuel issues; the '08-09s just are not as miserly with fuel as the pre-08s.

That's an accurate way of calculating it. So, how do primarily use your bike? commuting, stop and go, cruising, highway, twisties?

any modifications done to your bike?

I have a pre gen and I get around 55 to the gallon.

The first three tanks on my '09 have been in the low to mid 50's. 80% in town commuting the other 20% on the road at 55-65 mph.

There are no modifications to my bike. I mainly ride it on the highway and through some twisties.

My '07 averages about 64 mpg commuting. Best ever was 74 on a long highway trip.

wow... 40 is sort of low for non aggressive riding. are you sure you are turning off the choke or that the choke is being turned off all the way when the lever is in the off position?

other than the low MPG, how does the bike run?

For my 2008 I log my mileage at most fillups. There are 15 in my log and I'm averaging about 62 MPG in stop and go riding commuting to and from work with top speeds about 60 MPH.

I hardly ever have to use my choke. So it pretty much stays off. Other than the low MPG, the bike runs great. It only has a little over 1000 miles on it. Hopefully the more I ride it, the better MPG I will get.

check to see if the choke is adjusted correctly and that is indeed all the way off when the lever is in the closed position. the procedure is in the owner's manual.

I average 45mpg with a 49 tooth rear sprocket and a very aggressive throttle hand. I ride about 80% city and 20% hwy.

do u get ur gas at the same place all the time? r they known for crap gas? all the fastracs around here have 10% ethanol or something in them and it makes for crappy gas

I ALWAYS get my gas at either Shell or Cheveron. Usually Shell. I've never had a problem. Same for in the cage.

on average i get 65-72 mpg (this is on my 2006)

i'm 200lbs and i do mostly highway driving. i try to never go over 8k rpm
currently on stock sprokets

With what revs to do tend to ride? If you're always at over 8000 revs, that kind of gas mileage wouldn't surprise me. But if you drive normally at 3000-8000 mostly, then yeah, it seems a bit low.

I usually stay between 7000-8000, sometimes a little higher, but not very often.
