I was thinking the same thing! I wish I could have gotten a DSLR on loan for this too. I was going to buy one recently but now I'm torn between that and a gopro.

Note: Most members on this thread have checked in with us so far. As for everyone who will want to go on a true first run next weekend (June 16-17), PM eddiekay and have him start a new thread. He has some pretty good roads and experience under his belt and maybe you guys can start mapping /planning something out together. Post in this thread with the link to the new one if possible. Quote:

BTW, for those of you who don't know, the battery tunnel is not free.
Motorcycles with ez-pass is about 2.09. Cash is 2.75. Please be aware of this if we all do decide to take the tunnel. |

Guys if you want to avoid the tunnel just take the West side highway to the Brooklyn Bridge. Follow the signs that say BQE toward Staten Island/Verrazano Bridge, the IEKA exit should be 2 exits after the Brooklyn bridge exit (Hamilton Ave exit # 26).
Exit Hamilton Ave off of BQE toward Staten Island right on W9th st Left on Columbia st turns into Halleck st Right on Halleck st continue on to Beard st |

Ohh, and for rain, we have about 30-40% chance of thunderstorm after 1pm. Chances increase as the day goes on. I'm riding regardless, I'll just bring some rain gear in a backpack if I have to. |

Met urbanninja at the Kawa dealer by chance earlier. He has the most kickass street fighter....I leave it to you guys to convince him NOT to do the plastics. His bike is ready to ruuuuuumble. For those willing to do the long day...maybe next saturday....minimum 301 area ( about 200 RT from metro NY) If any of you have 600's....urbanninja????) The catskills are waiting.

whats up my people. just like to thank everyone for the hospitality everyone was great so cool ( special thanks to urbaninja for helping me with my bike troubles before the meet) and everyone looking out for each other against cagers...NO ONE WAS LEFT BEHIND A GOOD GROUP. no problem meeting up again its so beautiful having ur own lane with other riders to enjoy the freedom of the ride.yeah besides the ticket quota checkpoint..(FUNNY.....i dont remember my face shield mysteriously disappearing off my helmet) guess it doesnt matter if ur legit or not NYPD's scratch of the head tactic can magically produce a ticket at random, as a new rider i now understand the prejudice toward bikers thanks nypd u just gave me more confidence to ride more and none the less, what a warm welcome to riders in order generate revenue for the city...ok im done venting..
lesson learned: 1) WHEN IN NYC ...DONT EVER TAKE UR HELMET OFF WHEN PULLED OVER,UNTIL OFFICER ASKS U TOO!(see if that works) NOW .......WHEN DID U SAY THE NEXT RIDE WAS?? Last futzed with by kraazy; June 10th, 2012 at 01:31 PM. |

for those who got the NYPD souvenir, on bottom of ticket u can go to website listed.
and request an email notification when ur ticket is in the system (hilarious it states u have 15 days to take care of ticket soooo..we have to wait till its entered in the systeml) lmfao! then u can plead online, lemme no when u guys gonna plead so we can all meet up in court together dont forget to bring ur helmets, cant wait to see judge's face. |

2 yrs ago i was riding with 4 of my boys, 2 of them blew a stop sign and got pulled over.... long story short, me and my boy pulled over 200-300 ft in front of them. we DID NOT get pulled over but we stopped. i took off my helmet and this motherfok jumped out of his car with his hand on his tazer and threatened me with it, i put my helmet back on and sat on my bike and he wanted all of our licenses. moral of the story, 1) if u get pulled over do not take off ur helmet and 2) if people want to ride like asses and they get pulled over and ur not getting pulled over dont stop. |

A leisure ride to bear mountain would be nice. Everyone below their limit and/or getting to know there bike and not push too hard or anything. I'll be down for that. If this would be a haul ass, drag knee and hard parts situation without gear, then count me out.
We are all responsible for ourselves, but when we ride in group, I'd like to think we all have some type of responsibility for each other. Plus, when one goes down, everyone's day gets messed up. |

I'm down to meet up this Saturday but gotta break out early cuz of Father's Day dinner. But, nevertheless, I'd love to meet some of you guys.
If you guys wanna meet up for a cruise around town, not going too far, I'm there. If anybody into cigars, pm me. Maybe we can arrange something, ride and smoke (not at the same time of course).

For those interested in a short Saturday ride, we could meet in Tarrytown, head west over the Tappanzee to Seven Lakes Road (which runs through Harriman State Park). Take SLR north to Bear Mtn up to the peak, stop snap some photos etc. then head back south on 9W. The entire loop is around 65 miles and the ride time I would estimate 1hr 15min. I've done this loop before and its a nice ride. SLR can be a little bumpy for a 2 mile stretch but it smooths out and with the park and lakes as a backdrop its a nice ride. And Bear mtn is also nice.
I would suggest an early meetup time since it seems like people have things going on for father's day. How about 9am meetup? Anyone interested? Any variations on the idea? Pace would be moderate ~70mph on the interstate portion 20 miles. ~50mph through the park 20 miles. ~50-65mph on 9W 20 miles. Give or take a few mph depending on everyone's comfort but this is certainly not a knee dragging ride. |

FYI Tarrytown is about 20 miles north of midtown. For anyone who may be coming from NJ we could have an alternate meeting point, perhaps at the Palisades mall which is on the other side of the Hudson so you don't have to cross over twice and pay the toll.
TOLLS - There is a charge on the east bound tappanzee only so you only need to pay on the way back. I think it's around 4 or 5 bucks. There is also a toll on the bear mtn parkway which I think is like $1.25. Don't quote me on the amounts I usually use my ez pass and never pay attention to the toll. |
