What am I missing? - The new Ducati Hypermotard 796
http://www.ducati.com/en/bikes/my200...ly=Hypermotard
So, for 10 grand I get a street bike that looks like a dirt bike, with 81 hp/55 lb.-ft. torque and it weighs 368 lb. If they made it look more "street fighter" or "bob" but it looks like my 1976 Hodaka "Road Toad".

i don't get it, but not for the reasons you stated. I don't get it because ducati took years to release a smaller version of a bike that already kicks tail??? Normally it works the other way around.

I think the M 696 looks better.

i think if i had the hypermotard i would start riding dirt bike style again, putting feet down in the corners. i have seen the 1100 hypermotards on my dealer's floor for a long time now. i don't know if they have sold any.
Hodakas- cool bikes with funky names, dirt squirt, combat wombat, road toad. cool stuff. |

It IS a Ducati. There is a bit of a premium over an "equivalent" bike from a Japanese manufacturer.
That being said, the 796 is awfully tempting. |

Yes, the Aprilia Mana, Dorsoduro or Shiver seem to look better.

I like the idea of the little hypermotard, but it wouldn't be nearly useful enough to warrant the price to me. You would need another bike if you wanted to do any kind of long distance riding.

It's a good deal over the HM 1100 / 1100S but then you lose the adjustable suspension and dry clutch. As an equivalent of the Monster 696 though I think it's going to sell really well for Ducati.
I'm with the others here in that I prefer the Aprilia Dorsoduro in this size (~750). It performs on par with the HM 1100 for less money, kinda somewhere in between the HM 796 and 1100 as it were. |

I'll take an Aprilia Shiver 750, in silver. Thanks.
