They guy probably isn't a thief, he was just taking what he needed to get something to drink and eat. Yes he stole, but he wasn't trying to deliberately take everything you have.

Times are tough, the economy sucks. It wasn't the right thing to do, but if it got the guy some food and didn't hurt you guys, then it's not a huge issue (still not a right thing to do, but you can't blame the guy).

Of course theres always the chance that he just didnt look in the car, stole what he found, and bought booze with it, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

That's an awful lot of trust to put in a broken door.

Probably the only reason the thief didn't steal the other stuff is that he didn't have a fence he knew would take it, plus a homeless-looking guy walking down the street carrying a bunch of expensive stuff would stand out like a sore thumb and probably be arrested. Cash is fungible, may have gotten enough for a rock of crack.

Umm... there is no 60-something GB iPhone 3GS. It tops out at 32GB. A 64GB 3G iPod Touch makes more sense.

Lucked out!

Like others said, this thief sounds more like he was desperate for some food than 'stupid'.
