300 Hero Build thread :)

$4,000 OTD.

402 miles, dropped once, so has VERY MINIMAL damage to the exhaust, bar end and mirror. so minor I didn't even notice it until last minute. I'm going to eventually swap the exhaust and bar ends anyway and I don't really care about the mirror.

I think I got a pretty good deal

Future mods include.
Frame sliders
Seat
Exhaust slider

UPDATE 1:
Installed that fender eliminator. I love it! Makes the bike look MUCH cleaner.. ($55)

UPDATE 2:
SHORTYS!!!! I LOVE THESE! They look great! They look waaayyy better than my old ones Amy had, and I only spent $33 too!

Update 3:
Got some pitbull spools and pitbull stand, total ran me $175 which is worth it in the long run. Since they'll last forever!

October 7th, 2014 update:

Just bought a Carbon Fiber Musarri Slip-on exhaust. Ran me $250, but it arrived extremely fast and the bike sounds amazing! I noticed I lost a little mid range power, but I gained top end power. Weird... I'm going to eventually buy a juice box for her or power commander. I also lost a solid 15lbs weight reduction which is awesome! And the stock exhaust is ugly looking, this new one with the carbon fiber accents makes the bike look much sharper! Very happy with my purchase.

October 14th update:

Received K&N air filter in mail, ran me $52 but it was worth it, I noticed a pick up in power!

No, I have to probably spend another $400 on title and taxes :/ But it's a good price regardless.

The price of the ninja was actually only $3,901 (they had to charge me a $99 documentation fee, but I told them 4k was max so they took it off sale price) so $3,901 + sales tax + RMV fees = ~$350 in total fees, Then you can include the extra $10 for insurance this year (not bad at all) and plus excise tax (town charging me money) probably be around $40. So total about $4,400 for complete purchase w/ everything. I'm happy.

Still a great price for a practically brand spanking new bike! So.... I guess u still need to continue with the break in routine and get the 600 mile service (really just an oil change) done.

Nice!!!

Your gonna love this bike!

Got a name planned for this one yet?

FWIW...TST Industries makes a very nice FE, Integrated Tail Light, and shorty levers...if your going to go that direction with this bike....since this is your build thread.

I'm going to do the fender elim kit first, then possibly shortys. Also frame sliders. At first, I will be leaving her stock for a few months. Then when summer comes up I'm going to do mods like full exhaust, maybe after market seat, solo cowl, other misc things.

Also no name yet, I like to name em' after I get to know em.

Glad to see you got your 300. Hope you end up loving it as much as I do mine. BTW what fender eliminator were you looking at?

I've got the SS fender eliminator from ebay on my 300. I really like it, it's the cleanest looking kit for the 300 IMO. The price isn't too bad either.

Well, I was referring to OTD of the dealership lol, the RMV is their own bs.
@ninjamunky85 That kit looks wicked illegal lmao. I was looking at this one: Fender eliminator

Haha, I just like to live on the edge I guess.

Really it just matters what kind of area you live in though. Around here cops don't really mess with motorcycles unless you're doing something really stupid. I've never once been pulled over or questioned about my license plate. It's actually more visible than it looks in the pictures. YMMV

You're all wrong! The best fender eliminator is the Yoshimura!

It's similar to the one Danny posted, but has a better led light strip. Very high quality lighting. I like ones that retain external turn signals - they are safer as cars see them easier.

The build quality on the Yoshimura is top notch - not sure about the others as I have only had Yoshimura and Two Brothers fender kits in the past. Yoshimura for all my bikes!

Nah the negotiating was more or less this, I walked into his office and said "what's the lowest you'd take" he said $4,000. Then I tried to be like "can we do $3,800 and he just shook his head no lol. so I said, fine 4k then he tried to slap on a $100 documentation fee, and I said, no, 4k out the door and he agreed. I think I did alright, It's a 400 mile, brand new bike that retails for $5,000 and I got her for a $1,000 discount

By the way, I just parked her in my shed, I'm so excited, yesterday I cleaned my entire shed out and everything for her I can't wait to properly drive her, I've only gone about 25 miles, I can tell you now i'll probably need a new seat and shortys.

I went to the store today, I originally came back with a fram filter and some cheap oil.... thought about it for a few minutes and decided to bring it back... I originally spent $25...

I went all out and got 3 quarts of Mobil 1 oil full synthetic 10w40 I even went ahead and spent some extra money and got a K&N filter... only the best for my bike.... I ended up spending $50.

I'll change it again in 6 months/5k miles

I'm at 950 miles now, so that makes 1 oil change at 400 from dealer, then again at 950.

Castrol Oil... it was cheap like $6 a quart... I guess spending the extra $4 a quart is worth it to know I have the best..

I wasn't going to change it at all at first, since it was done at 400, but it's a brand new bike and it's worth spending a little extra money to know she's running like clock work.

Yeah, definitely good call on changing it. The first thing I do with any used vehicle is an oil change. It's just cheap insurance.

If you are looking to save some $$$ and still want Synthetic, look into Shell's Rotella T-6 oil. Fully synthetic. Dirt cheap!

+1 on Shell Rotella T6.

Also if you really want to give the best for your bike, you can actually do a better oil filter for cheaper by going the car filter route.

You can use the dimensions on that page to match up with section 5 on here (it's near the bottom):

That page hasn't been updated in a while but it's still useful.

If you are looking to save some $$$ and still want Synthetic, look into Shell's Rotella T-6 oil. Fully synthetic. Dirt cheap!
I know! I wanted to get the shell since everyone recommends it so highly, but for some stupid reason no stores near me sell the T-6 10w40, it's only 5w40 or 10w30.... so annoying. lol

When people talk about the Shell Rotella T6, it's referring to the 5W40 as it only comes in that weight. The upper number is the one that matters more in terms of being thick enough to stand up to operation. The lower number allows the oil to operate down to lower temperatures. It's fine to use in our bikes.
