This happened to me a while back:

https://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=300192

It ended up being a loose electrical connection (plug) under the gas tank, on the right side of the bike.

From @Flying:

Quote:
Test the relay by short circuiting the terminals under the fuse with the screwdriver, make sure to not touch the frame.

If the starter turns over, then you need to inspect all the wiring originating from the 4-pin plug (red cover).

https://www.ninjette.org/forums/show...3&postcount=26
Wiring diagram, see the fuse/motor/battery group at the bottom right, follow it upwards to the other starter relay. Look for burnt wiring or plugs.

If the starter does not turn over, there is a problem with the relay itself, the motor, the negative/positive wiring leading to the two terminals on the relay, or the battery.
I suggest you follow his steps above with the diagram. He helped me solve the issue in minutes, when I had already spent hours.

No, not same. Here's correct diagram for 1988-2007:

https://faq.ninja250.org/wiki/Starter_circuit_schematic

1. Note that there's 4 switches that must be set properly for START button to work.
- Ignition-switch = ON sending power out
- Engine Start/Stop = ON
- Neutral-switch = ON or...
- Clutch-switch = IN (squeeze lever)

2. There should be +12v power on red wire going into START button
3. There should be continuity/zero-resistance to chassis-ground on yellow/green wire at starter-relay coil

ONLY when ALL these switches and conditions are set properly will START button activate starter-relay which activates starter-solenoid which sends power to starter.

Fuel mixing into oil huh? Been sitting a while, likely piston rings are, or were seized.
