Its looking that way....

Long story short (I dont want to write an essay)

I got a 06 Kawi 450f and some money from a guy off craigslist. He gave me the title, some work needed to be done, he paid for part of it and I have a check for some more of it (idk if itll ever go through at this point, not looking promising)

I traded the 06 450 (without trying to get it registered in my name, I just kept the title) for the DRZ400 I wanted. registered the DRZ Everything is good. right? wrong.

Dude with the 450 tried to take it in to register it. Bad title, VIN does not exist. ****!

So I may be out my ninja, and out the DRZ. and stuck with a stolen dirt bike I dont even want. which actually if it is stolen I wont be stuck with it since ill turn it in. SO ill be stuck with not bike, and pretty much no money after all the repairs and reg. the DRZ and a new jacket.

So its looking like I may be effed. I may ask for donations soon (just kidding. kind of) as I will be out a lot of money. K Im gonna go cry now. :cry:

This is what happens when you trust people, btw the kids number is now off the hook, and I only had that one number for him.

Did you get a plate number or anything?

That really sucks, try cancelling your check so they get screwed on part of the payment.

No, I have a check from him... double

I looked up the VIN and it doesnt looks stolen, so im hoping there is just a bunch of trading and messed up ish, that caused title mix up and it can be resolved.

I used this and it looks clean, at least it looks as if it hasnt been reported stolen.

Na, hes straight up. He waited a whole month to get this 450. He wouldnt want to do that. Doesnt make sense for him.

Damn!! I knew this whole thing sounded sketchy from the beginning. You can't trust anybody in today's world.

Sometimes you have to learn lessons the hard way. I have bad luck with registering bikes too. It really sucks!

Hopefully you can somehow get everything straightened out. You don't have the address of the guy who bought your 250??

Justin, sorry dude this sucks, maybe, can you go to the DMV with the guy that has it now and let them know what you found and maybe help straighten things out? And the kid that you did the trade with, the name on the check is it the same name he gave you? And how postdated is the check?

thanks guys, at this point Im still not sure what I am going to do. Since I cant find records of the bike from the VIN it MAY (praying this is the case) be out of the DMV records. Off Road vehicles (from what i understand) in CA are out of the system in 4 years... We will see. Ill keep everyone updated.

Really? cause I think if they are reported stolen they stay in the system. Maybe the person didnt report it.

Update* P. was able to track down some records. There are no reports of it stolen. So it looks like he will just have to get a bill of sale from me and he should be able to apply for a new title. ugh. such a head ache..

If it comes down to it, report your Ninja stolen. If he still plans to get the rims done, he'll contact you. Anyway, most states don't have registration for off-road bikes. If it's really just not in the system, treat it however they would great an out of state sale which also would not be in their system.

Not sure but he is putting his own lien on it. He works at a mechanic shop so hopefully with this lien and since its in his possession he will be able to get the title.
