Carb/jet kit pictures
I've decided to take the plunge and do the airbox removal/pod filter/jet kit thing. While I've got my bike in so many pieces it's almost unrecognizable, I've decided now is a good time to take pictures of things that we need for DIYs related to carbs and jet kit stuff. I'm taking a ton of pictures as I go along and I'll post them up here, and then we can pick through them and find the ones that would be best for the carb cleaning DIY. I am somewhat hampered by the fact that I'm not a mechanic and I don't necessarily know what names go with what parts, although I think I'm starting to figure it out as I go along. I have a few questions already about this thing circled in red.
The questions I have are: what is this thing, would I be really sorry if I took it apart, and if not, is it something that should be cleaned? The rest of my carburetor *looks* pretty clean to my untrained eye. I looked at my main jets and what I believe are my pilot jets and I can see through them, and I'm not finding any nasty residue anywhere like I've seen in other pictures on the net of people cleaning carbs. Thanks for the help and I'll be posting lots more photos soon! |

That's the coasting enricher. No need to mess with it unless you are having a problem. It's a small vacuum operated diaphragm. This helps keep the bike running when the throttle is chopped and also reduces the frequency of backfire from being way too lean.

Sounds good to me! My next question is out of all the parts and pieces I need to mess with for my jet kit, the only one I can't seem to find is the mixture screw. If it's hard to describe where it is, just tell me which side of the carb I need a picture of (top, bottom, airbox side, engine side) and I can make it happen!

To get to the idle mixture screws, you'll have to pull the caps that cover them out. http://faq.ninja250.org/wiki/Removin...re_screw_plugs

Here's what I've got. I read through one of the kkim carb cleaning DIYs and tried to take photos that I think would go along with it, as well as a few pictures that I thought were relevant as I was doing this for the first time and thought, "Okay so now what the hell am I looking at?" Feel free to download them, mark them up, and incorporate them into the site as you see fit. I've never used Flickr before so let me know if this link is bogus.
