Saw an accident and first to help...

I was on the highway today and traffic went from 70 to 0 in very quickly. I looked in my mirror (in my car) and thought I was going to be rear ended. The car stopped in time. I looked at the car in front of me then back in my mirror because I saw a motorcycle. I lost sight of it then it reappeared without a rider. The bike went sliding into the other lane. I pulled over and ran to the rider. I was the first one to get to him. He was crawling to the should of the road. I did what I could help while someone else called 911. He ended up rear ending the car in front of him and laying it down on the right side. His bike is totaled but he will be okay. He may have a broken leg or ankle, maybe even both. Luckily he was wearing a full face helmet (even tho he rode a harley lol) because the whole front of it was scratched up. Seeing and helping with this definitely opened my eyes. He told me had been riding for years and never had an accident. Sounds to me like someone got a little too comfy on the road. I think it was a blessing in disguise, I was getting a little to comfy/cocky on my bike

Be safe everyone!

That's great that you were there to help! How much other gear was he wearing? Jacket/boots/pants/gloves? Any other damage to him?

Ride safe out there and ATGATT!

Glad you were there, i mean as a biker we have like this companionship thing. So im happy he is ok and that you rushed to help like you did. Sadly you dont see that often. Most people just want to gawk...

On a lighter note: nice bike

Surprisingly one of the few harley riders in my area who had all the gear... full leather jacket, gloves, full face helmet, and ankle high shoe boot things haha. I think it was just his leg and ankle. His jeans held up pretty well. He got pretty lucky.

ATGATT!!

That's awesome luck that he had another rider turn up, first on the scene. Sounds like you learned a little from his mistake too, which is also good.

Love the picture of your bike on a beach.

That's scary. I've had a few "oh sh*t" moments on the highway when traffic has gone from traveling quickly to suddenly stopping. He probably wasn't keeping a good distance between himself and the car in front of him. Idk, though. Obviously, I wasn't there, so I really can't say.
It's a good thing you were there, Megan.

Btw, did you find out why traffic suddenly stopped like it did? Was there another crash up ahead?

Being Cali, it was probably someone got an LOL text and had to reply, so they hit their brakes. In SoCal, people/traffic often stop for (literally) nothing. I once was next to a car where hte dirver sneezed and locked up the brakes. Funny as long as you're not behind them.

And what's worse is most of them learn NOTHING from those experiences.

Cal-Trans had just closed the right lane and didnt have it well posted and people panicked. They ususally dont do roadwork at 12 in the afternoon either so it was a little unexpected.

...and yes cali drivers are very brake happy. San Jo has some great drivers *cough* *cough*
I dont like driving down south or in the bay area very much.

Well, yeah, because THEY are not the ones getting hurt. In their mind, the a-hole MC rider ran into the back of them.

Was first to respond to a flipped car in San Diego earlier this year (she was fine). I was on the bike and so a ton of other bikeers stopped, probably thinking that a biker was involved!

lol - that gives me an idea: I could carry an inflatable motorcycle with me in my bag: whenever I need help, I'll just inflate it, wave my arms around and wait for the bikers to gravitate towards me

It can happen to anyone, no matter how comfy or uncomfy they are with their bikes. Accidents happen. Maybe he was tired or had something on his mind. We're all human, that's why its better to leave the bike home when you're stressed.
