Ah yes, the world of "vintage", "rare", and "one-of-a-kind" motorcycles.

Wish me luck, I'm going to look at a Craigslist motorcycle tomorrow.

So far it feels good, the pictures look good (and recent), the description is sane and makes sense and the guy is responsive to email questions.

I really want this bike to be as good as it seems in the ad, been wanting one of these for a while (for luck/superstition/karma I won't say what type/brand/model until after I see it).

Never been down. Never been raced. - Every bike ever.

Never been crashed. Repainted for preference.

No scratches (except for the visible ones).

Any deal where the guy is "working on a cruise ship", "on deployment", "overseas for a few months" + wants to know your paypal email so he can pay you + will have somebody pick it up is definitely a great deal.

My personal favorite is "Garage kept, low miles, female owned!"

Though, *my* bike currently does meet that description, think I can get $3500 for it?

Don't forget the $1,100 harley being sold by a woman in Iowa who just wants to get rid of her dead son's motorcycle.

Low miles runs great garage kept!!! I have to say, dealing with people on there has taken my faith in humanity down a notch.

It's a buyers marketplace though. As a seller, especially with something valuable, you have to wade through endless scams, thieves, and idiots to actually find a buyer. I still buy vehicles off CL, but I'd never waste my time trying to sell anything on there again.

I think the ones that piss me off the most are just the over priced bikes that never sell and are on Craigslist for literally years. I browse Craigslist a lot and certain bikes are on there forever.

I do my part to fight this - my bikes are usually priced low enough that they sell in one day. None of this "testing the waters" with a high price BS, I post a bike and it sells immediately. My buyers never ask me if I will take $XXXX, they ask me if there's a way they can get me money faster so that I sell the bike to them instead of anyone else who claims dibs. My bike is always gone before the guy who is deployed overseas can offer to send me money over paypal and arrange pickup. Lol.

My last race bike I sold had a waiting list of 8 people in the span of a half day and the ones who hesitated enough to ask a question went to the back of the line.

My personal favorite is "ran when parked". That normally means it was parked outdoors 20+ years ago, it's a complete pile of rust and corrosion, and the engine may be seized.

I knew the last 250 I bought had gone down, but I wasn't expecting the welding marks I found on the frame under the tank. Clean title. Wouldn't have known if I didn't work on the bike.

Selling for $1500.

"buyer" is willing to pay $2500 plus $500 exclusively for shipping. When "buyer" remit the payment, the payment was hold.

An email received from "American Bank" stating that the bank require the airway bill or some sort of proof that the bike has been sent before the payment could be released.

And some idiots do fell for this.

RIP logic.

I actually love those as I don't feel bad low balling them after it sits for a while. My best CL deal has been negotiating for my friend's mint, low mileage Ninja 300 for $2600 out in the middle of nowhere. Too bad getting him to buy it still didn't stop me from buying another 300... lol.

That's the best excuse to use if your girlfriend, boyfriend, wife, husband, parents, children want you to sell your motorcycle or vintage car or Star Wars collection.

You put it for sale but with a stratospheric price tag, you know you'll never sell and you don't want to, but it's for sale... While waiting for a buyer, you still continue to use it...

Actually only two years for mine. Dead battery, exhaust is rusted to hell, but minimal rust on the frame. Had it running in a week with a new battery and some fresh petrol.

With all the work I've done in it I think it was a bargain for $220. I'd rather work on project that I know is trash than risk paying a fortune on something that might be trash anyway.

I have a motorcycle on Craigslist now. The first scam attempt was a guy wanting me to run a VIN check for him, on a site he selected. When I investigated the site, I learned that he was set up to get a commission for a referral to that site, so he answered the ad only to get a few bucks out of me.

A week ago it happened again, but that VIN check site was totally bogus, so I assume it was set up to get my credit card number.

I did get two calls that were probably legit. One was a guy offering a lot less than my asking price, and the other was a woman who though it was a completely different motorcycle. Once I pointed out what it is, I never heard from her again.

It means he slammed into something so hard his front wheel helped him to relocate it. Also known as a "compact" radiator, hahah.

People on Fb love that one. Once you see that, or them asking a question that has clearly already been answered in the ad, you know it's an idiot. I hit the proverbial ignore button everytime.

If I had a dollar for every time that happened I'd get more money than I would selling the bike.

That and people that drag on asking a question or two every other day for a couple of weeks, then offer you one tenth of what you listed it for.

Is it still available?

And when you reply "yes". You hear nothing back.
See, the pregens usually sell so quickly I always had to ask if it's still available.
Though there was one guy who had his listed for 3 months after telling me it wasn't available any more.

I got lucky with mine and spotted the ad within half an hour of it being listed

He may have been suckered by someone calling and telling him "I really want it, I'll definitely come to buy it this weekend.", and then he never showed up.

The guy was a massive pain in the ass from the start. I think it was buyers getting sick of him :/

Back in the newspaper classified ads days, I used to wonder why so many guys would phone me and ask for directions, and then not show up. Back then I also learned that describing the motorcycle accurately, in one case a Kawasaki H1, doesn't work anywhere near as well as describing it accurately and then throwing in "56 hp, very fast."
