Trail Tech Vapor Tach experience?
Hey, anyone who has used the Trail Tech Vapor computer please chime in and report on your satisfaction with the tach function. I have used it on an old Suzuki GS (points and condensor system), and I could not get the tach to operate without a lot of bouncing and variation. On a 13,000 redline bike like the Ninja 250, however, I'd like a steadier reading.
What's your experience, and how did you connect your tach sensor? Last futzed with by Chicagobob; October 3rd, 2012 at 12:20 PM. |

I've been using one on my '89 Hawk and have been liking it a lot more than the Koso I have on my '88 Hawk.
I got the Dashboard that they offer as well and have it mounted up with a small piece of carbon fiber that I cut. I got the SV650 kit as it has a resistor already in-line with the tach input. I just have the tach wire coming from the CDI going to the tach line on the gauge and it's been working great. |

Update, April 2013, I've been using the Vapor on my '06 Ninja 250 for several months with no problems. I used the stock indicator lights and sockets in Trail Tech's dashboard surround, and wired the power, tach and ground lines through the stock wiring harness. The black tach drive wire goes to the Vapor's red tach lead. I used Trail Tech's resistor lead (as recommended by k-os) and set the tach to read 1 pulse per rev. The tach gives a steady and accurate reading.
I replaced the stock temp sensor (in the water pump housing) with Trail Tech's sensor, which has the same threading. For the speedometer, I used Trial Tech's bolt-on wheel sensor, bolted to the front brake caliper bracket, and a magnetic bolt attached to the brake disk with a nut. Works very well. |
