-Hey I'm Kate I just got my "ninjette", learning to ride it now. Had a spill my first round.. bound to happen, least it's out of the way. No shame. Had more success this last time riding. I'm only 5' so even tho these bikes are called "small" they're still a lil tall for me, already ordered my lowering links=]. bout it for now had to post somethin will be waiting for the welcoming crew to reply..

oh, this could be a fun game...we'll all try to guess your weight. I'll start at 114, but you should really post a picture of yourself so we have a better chance of being accurate. Welcome to the forum!

I have flush mounts and it seems cars never see my blinkers when I am wanting to go left. When a car sees me at a light going and they want to go left they just sit there. There are times when it is very obvious I am going left from the angle of my bike but cars just still wait until I am fully in my turn. Anyone have this same problem that do NOT have flush mounts?

The maintenance schedule(s) are in sticky threads at the top of the new-gen Tech section. Also some good info in the wiki.

Tell your drop story for advice on how to avoid. I dropped mine as soon as I got home. It's an 05, and buck naked now. Happy Trails, great site, peace out!

HA! well my drop story has to do more with my height. But to avoid it I would have just sat around and thought about where everything is on a bike and what to do as you ride. I received the bike while I was at work and rode it after work at night. don't ride first time at night. plus like I said i just should have had more time to think about the controls. Basically I took off thought about shifting and forgot the clutch and thought about breaking and couldn't think of what to do and just slowed and fell over... I drive a stick shift car it's just opposite clutch on hand and gears on foot but a lil weird to get used to.

First of all, Welcome to the forums!

Second, it really sounds like you haven't taken the MSF BRC. If this is the case, I HIGHLY suggest that you schedule said course immediately. Had you taken it before you picked up your bike, you wouldn't have any of the issues you are having with the bike and I would bet, wouldn't have dropped it.

It's a great course, and you're definitely going to learn a ton of usefull skills. I can't emphasize enough to take the BRC if you're just starting out riding.

This is the reason I stuck with the OEM blinkers and hopefully cagers will notice my blinking lights. I even went further to make my blinkers running lights as well.

Yeah. Don't lower it too far, or else the back wheel will rub badly on the tail.

Welcome to the forums!! My bike's original (and previous) owner was a woman too! I recently emailed her and she said she missed the bike so badly she was considering getting a new one. but now this ninja is a man's bike

remember even if its not touching when you are sitting there doesnt mean it wont rub when you hit a bump in the road.

no no that's not at all what he means... if you hit a bump in the road at 50 mph, that's a sizable impact. If the bike is dropped too far, it really won't take much at all to get the rear tire to touch the undertail. Like we're only talking a couple inches of travel here. Better to be safe than sorry so your bike doesn't end up looking like this one

Don't go past 1.5 inches. That's the lowest you can go where the rear suspension can still go full travel and not rub the tire on the undertail

while yes I am a fat ass, no I was not implying you were.

Chris is right, your spring is meant to flex. I dont have exact measurements but if lower it and think "cool I have .5" of clearance" you are going to hit and rub as soon as you hit a rough patch of road. I suppose you could but a stiffer spring? but this would make for a very uncomfortable ride. I am going to drop mine the 1.5 in. to see how it sits in the next few month most likely. I need to see if its going to work for my wife when I move up to a bigger bike. She's 4'11" 90ish lbs. So she feels your being small pain. lol
