another question on replacing shocks
Ok, so I've read quite a bit on shocks and just about everyone says to replace them (on a pregen) with better ones. So many of the shocks raise the tail right? But I have my bike lowered a bit 'cause I'm so dang short, so would replacing the shock & spring benefit me and could I still lower it or not? This might be a stupid question, but I know NOTHING on this subject. Also, if it would benefit me to change it, what kind would you recommend, from a ninja500?
I've modded my bike cosmetically but would like to make it handle better now. Any suggestions are welcomed |

I've replaced the shock on my '89 with one from a 2009. The main benefit is the adjustable preload to compensate for passenger weight or heavy luggage. Otherwise, the technology is similar, i.e. stone age. And it raises the seat 3/8" or so which sounds like what you don't want.

I put a Hagon shock on my 2005.
Great quality, fits the bike perfectly, no change in ride height, adjustable pre-load, damping and rebound. Just north of $400 if I remember correctly, worth every penny. |

If you get adjustable dogbones from Soupy's performance, you can install whatever length shock you want (within reason) and keep the same ride height you need.
I would stay away from the ex500 shock. it's actually softer unless you crank the preload up, then it's really stiff |
