What the heck, British-type TV people!!!
It isn't often that I get into a TV show from the UK, but in the last 2 years have watched a couple on hulu. One thing consistent with these shows is the length of the TV season.... 6. That's right, 6 episodes a year! That is a month and a half of a weekly program, then ten and a half months of waiting, waiting, waiting, forgetting, forgetting...... Just found another one this week, and two evenings later, done. Now I'm waiting/forgetting again. Seriously though, aren't our seasons 3 to 4 times that?

I think each season of Top Gear is only 6 episodes now as well. It's not 6 a year, because instead they are doing two seasons a year... seems odd to me.
Sell more season dvd/blurays?

Yeah, Top Gear used to have 10 episodes per season. Although I imagine they're down to 6 now because Top Gear is expensive to make (doesn't seem to justify that rational when 350 million people watch the show).
But they do have two seasons per year. Doesn't make any sense to me, but then again, they still have a monarchy (which makes no sense to me), so I just shrug my shoulders and continue on.

There are some interesting answers on the net to my question. A lot has to do with money, differences in writing/production style, philosophy of quality, etc. I personally like a longer season, but I can see how it works for actors who can do more projects in a given period of time.
