Sorting...

Alex: Is there a way to sort the "Unread Posts" list? I'd like to focus on threads started with limited to no responses without having to scan threw sometimes thousands of new unread post. I still will be going threw the long list of unread post but I'd like to help those that may be in need of it first.

I can't do much with the unread posts link, that is a custom mod. But - I did just add a search under the "view new posts" menu in the navigation bar for "Find All Unanswered Threads". It should exclude threads in the MotoNews sections, and it appears to be working OK. I did throw it together quickly though, so if you see any weirdness in it, let me know.

I am seeing a minor issue with the caching. Searches like this are sometimes cached, so if you run the search, make a post in an unanswered thread to help someone out, then rerun the search soon after, that same thread might still show up. It will show that it has a reply in it, so it will look a little weird in that search result, but that's about it. It will typically age out within 10 - 15 minutes given normal activity on the board.

I'll try and get a no-cache flag into that search if I can figure out the syntax.

Is their a way to make it exclude all of the Marketplace threads?

There is. Is that desirable to all?

I went ahead and excluded them. I think your intuition was correct. The use of this search is to identify threads that stayed unanswered where someone may have been looking for help. Anyone looking to buy things or sell things is going to head into the marketplace anyway, and if a thread goes unanswered there that's not the same type of issue.

Well there may an instance where we may be able to connect a buyer with a seller or at least send a buyer in the right direction if they have had no used part opportunities from other members. My choice would be to continue to include the marketplace.

It's some pretty clunky code. There is no way I can see to "include" forums in a search, you can only "exclude" them. So that new marketplace search excludes 30+ forums in a row for the 3 that are left included. This is almost guaranteed to be forgotten when I add another forum in the future, so if you notice strange threads showing up in these searches, ping me to remind me when that happens.

Also - I think I fixed the caching issue, let me know if you see any threads popping up in the searches that do have a reply already.

Can we take out like "Group Rides" and Ride Reports", etc...?

Any real help to offer in those threads?

Of course they should stay, the help provided is an "attaboy" for posting it up in the first place. When I post a ride report and zero people reply, I feel like such a loser.

I just added a new marketplace forum area today, and actually remembered to adjust this code to account for it. Yay me.

Jason - I'm *really* liking this search. I should have done it years ago, it's a great tool to find those threads that got zero attention the first time for some reason, and perhaps give them a second chance with a timely bump.

Me too Alex. I love the fact that I can narrow down the search to those that may still need help. I've watch the fact that I can bump their thread in the right direction and others chime in that can help too. It's great and proven!!!
