Is this even worth fixing?
Hi Guys.
Had a ****** low side fall about a month back and I ****ed up my left side cowling. (It was more frustrating than anything) I think it would cost me like $280 including shipping to have them send me a brand new factory cowling. I wouldn't mind just fixing it up some myself to hide it a little better but I don't even know where I would start. I know even a small ass amount of the OEM Candy Lime Green paint is practically worth it's wait in gold... Anyone have any suggestions? |

The only thing short of finding a nice cheap replacement (if one ever shows up) on Ebay is to find some nail polish. You can find the closest possible match ( nail polish is really high quality enamel paint) and really carefully (may have to use a sewing needle or a tooth pic) and fill the void. Doing this will make the crack very less noticeable especially at a distance greater than a few feet away. Taking it to a body shop will cost as much as a new fairing.

I would have never thought to use finger nail polish... That's genius.

If you can afford it, get the new part and fix it. It seems like when you let one thing go, the bike goes downhill from there. JMO.

I'm sorta trying to wait it out and see if any other unfortunate incidents happen that are a larger priority to fix. I figure a year down the road if that's still the one thing ****ed up on the bike then I'll replace it. I really appreciate the advice though! |

Drill 2 small holes in the ends of the cracks so they don't spread. It'll be more noticeable but not more noticeable than a totally broken fairing one day.
You could also plastic-weld them and repaint, though with that definitely don't use nail polish, the ABS plastic will melt.

I used epoxy weld on cracks on my fairing with fiberglass cloth stretch across and my fairings have been sturdy for the last 2500 miles. The cracks haven't gotten bigger either. There are a few DIY covering this method online.

Plastex is popular with the EX500 guys. (We have one big piece for the upper fairing, so replacements are nearly $1,000.)
