Braking power at different speeds?

So I was riding to work today and I noticed something when trying to slow/stop. At slow speeds, if I squeeze on the brakes a moderate amount, the bike slows but not all too quickly. If I'm going faster..say 50+mph, and squeeze the same amount, the front of the bike noticeably dips and the bike definitely slows quicker. Is there a reason for this difference in braking power, or is it all in my head?? Is it because there's more forward momentum so it just adds more weight -> friction -> braking power up front?

It should not be a reason for what you describe to happen, unless your brake pads develop extra grip with heat (longer time under friction).
