Lee Park's Total Control

So I just took Lee Park's Total Control Clinic Level 1 and 2 earlier this month. And then last week I took the MSF Advanced Rider Course - with Sport bike Techniques.

And I can tell you right now, the Lee Parks was AMAZING. I learned so much about body positioning, suspension setup, and I got SO much more confidence in leaning. Comparatively, the MSF Advanced Rider Course seemed like a too-politically correct waste of time, and I learned close to nothing that wasn't already taught in Lee Parks.

In the Lee Parks things like "Hanging off" the bike is encouraged and taught correctly, and they tell you why and how it works. In the MSF "Hanging Off" is discouraged because "It attracts law enforcement, and you're not a boy racer."

Line selection and decreasing radius turns are also focused on in the Lee Parks, whereas only touched upon in the MSF course. Emergency techniques were also more in-depth.

I got to take all 3 courses because i'm active duty millitary (USA) and It's required, and free

Some pictures from the Lee Park's Total Control Clinic Level 2

Interesting! MSF here never taught us to hang off or drop a knee, nothing in the test required it. Actually, the one time they did tell us to slide a butt-cheek off is for the figure 8's, it makes it easier to counterweight the bike.

Well in the Basic Course they don't teach you anything like that. I took that a couple months back, in the Level 2 course they teach you to lean in, but nowhere near as much as the Lee Parks.

MSF teaches you to lean forward and in on its sportbike course. This leaves you with a little more lean angle in reserve accessible by sliding your ass off the seat.

basic course not teaching advanced riding techniques? WHAT????lol....

In anycase the MSF sportbike course teaches NEW/ignorant/or uneducated sportbike riders basic sportriding techniques. It also gives good practice with more experienced riders. The next step up before a track day or school is the total control class...

That said, if you are new/newer/returning to riding I would recomend taking the ERC/ARC/MSBRC at a minimum before taking the total control class. (especially if you are military and can take the MSF stuff for FREE)

Its all stages of learning.

Also the original MSF sportbike course strongly resembled the total control class. It is my understanding that some lawsuits changed the MSF course to the hollow shell it has become.
