Got my first riding suit and gear bags

Well, after studying gear onine and checking with riding buddies I ordered a Joe Rocket Atomic 4.0 Jacket. The Atomic Pants, a Nelson Rigg CL-1060 S Sport tail bag and a Nelson Rigg CL 1025 magnetic tank bag. It all seems like nice gear. The size small jacket is a little snug, but fits fine when I sit on the bike in a riding position. I guess comfortably snug is better than a little loose? I was told in a crash you don't want the elbow pads moving around and the jacket looked like it was just right on me. I'll see once I start riding. All in all I'm happy so far with the gear. Can't wait for spring so I can start riding and try the gear out.

Nice! Yeah, I was told that your jacket is supposed to be a little big snug. Nearly uncomfortably so.

Agreed gear should fit snug.

Don't forget about about boots, and gloves. Also make sure the jacket has a back protection, some jackets just have a piece of foam, not proper protection but can be upgraded to CE armour.

All my gear has CE rated armour, even my boots.

Fixed it for ya.

I know of no jacket that comes with proper back protection. IIRC Joe Rocket comes with an ethafoam pad (think boogie board) rather than the usual floppy gray foam, but it's still not the right stuff.

I have, use, and really like the Forcefield inserts.

Re fit: Yes, tight, and for exactly the reason stated.

On gloves.... don't do shorties. If you do go down, your instinct will be to throw your hands out in front of you. That will expose your wrists.

There's a reason that track gloves are full gauntlets and have palm sliders.

Re boots: This is the one area where you can get away with non-motorcycle-specific gear, as long as what you're wearing is the equivalent of a serious work boot (no ankle boots). The point is to a) support your ankle in the event of a crash and b) protect your shins from flying stuff while riding.

Motorcycle boots do have a few advantages. For one thing, they have smooth soles so you can move your feet around on the pegs easier. For another, they have a shift pad so that the shifter doesn't wear a hole in the top of the boot.

My Fieldsheer jackets all came with proper CE armour, including the back protector.

This is why I (almost) never say "all" or "none".

My Cortech came with this. It's CE rated foam but not what I would call a back protector.

Still better than a piece of foam.

Where do I look for a CE rated back protector that fits in my size small Joe Rocket 4.0 Jacket?

Google is your best friend

Keep in mind there are other manufacturers out there to retrofit jackets, or you could wear a separate back protector under your jacket.

Just waneed to say I took some rides the past two days and tried out the new gear. The bags work great! I don't even notice the tank bag in front of me, but it's there to rest against if I crouch down. The Joe Rocket jacket and pants work great. I do notice though that the pants are kind of slippery on the seat. Much more so than jeans.
