KTM and Honda are separate bike manufacturers, aren't they? You'd probably have to import, I have no idea where to get them from.

Those 250's are prototypes, and cannot be purchased, even by the teams themselves. They are typically leased from the factory for the year, at a cost somewhere between $500K and $1M per bike per year. Can anyone spare some change for me?

Hopefully Moto2 isn't a let down. I think it will be pretty interesting.

Cost of renting a factory Aprilla 250cc for the year £650,000
Cost of buying a moto2 spec bike for the year £75,000 Aprilla killed the 250gp class with there pricing, plus the bikes where no longer road relevant any more (2 strokes). Moto2 will be all about the chassis builders. Great article in current issue of visordown magazine (has a er-6f on the cover) about the chassis designers and how they are trying to gain advantages * swing arm spools on inside of swingarm instead of outside to reduce drag * have to use standard engines airbox but manufacturing the steering head in such a way as to get as much air as possible into that airbox * new radiator technology to be able to use a smaller rad to reduce drag * and lots of other small things aimed at making sure their bike with the same engine as all the other bikes can go 2kph faster down the straights Should be a very competitive grid with lots of teams.

I also wonder if a hopped up 250 4 stroke prototype chasis could hang with the 125s I know a 250 out of the box could not. just like they let 1000 cc bikes race with the 500cc 2 strokes

125 will stay another year,
talk is of replacing them (125) with single cylinder 4 stroke 450cc bikes. KTM have built and tested a beautiful example using a 250gp chassis called the RC4, can't find online pics of it but in the magazines it looks amazing.

^^ indeed
I for one am looking forward to Moto2 - the 250GP was awesome because of its super competetive nature but the bikes themselves are, as was mentioned, "irrelevent" |

well all the 250gp bikes were all the same, the aprilla was sold under the name derbi and gillera. Only other bikes were that ktm, and aoyama's old honda, both of those chassis where built but a crew that will be taking part in moto2.
