How To Bench Test Ignition Coils?
I'm having some issues with my bike and one of the diagnostics I want to perform is testing the ignition coils. So far I've attempted the alternate test procedure listed in the manual and can't get it to work (maybe that's my issue). When measuring from the coil terminal and the primary winding terminal I read infinite resistance, actually just 1___. When I measure across the two primary winding terminals I get a reading of 3.8ohms. I did this on my 2007 as well and got similar results.
I measured the Secondary wiring and just got another infinite reading... Am I doing this wrong? Is there another way to test this at home?

My multimeter displays infinity as a 1 all the way on the left of the screen:
1___ vs __3.8 <-- an actual reading where the underscores are not really there.

yeah, for that step I'm on 20ohms versus 200, 2k, etc.

did you clean the surface you're probing? is it covered in some kind of insulation?

The surface is clean, bare metal.
Testing per the directions (method A): Testing contrary to the directions (across the two posts): Testing per the directions for the secondary windings (method B): All pictures are linked thumbnails to larger versions of the images.

i think that just means you need to switch to a higher magnitude setting... see how it says it should be 16kohms, you want to use the "20k setting"

I've done that for testing the secondary wiring, method B. There's no change. The scale for the primary windings is in the single digits.
