Can someone confirm this?

It has been confirmed that the front sprockets for the previous and next generation Ninja 250r’s are the same.
Is this a good deal for $16.

Deal... Maybe not. Dennis Kirk sales them all the time for $15.99. Looks like the right sprocket though. I've bought two with no issues.

Thanks for the feedback. These are Dennis Kirk sprockets. Do I need to change the chain or adjust it?

I thought that they were slightly different but would still work? Something to do with shimming that would be necessary to get them completely inline if you used an old-gen one on a new-gen? Or am I misremembering?

More links here.

You remember correctly, but most parts suppliers just list it as a fitting replacement and many people have simply thrown it on there like it was and ridden w/o issues.

That said, it was pretty hard to get the right JT Sprocket just because all the dealers had the old one in their computers for this bike.

But once that was done, swapping the gear was easy. In fact, setting the chain tension took longer than the sprocket change.

I haven't taken in on the freeway yet but in town riding is much more pleasant as I'm not shifting as much, which was my primary reason for the sprocket change. In my opinion, factory gearing is WAY too low for this bike. I may change the rear sprocket as well later.

Thanks for the info from the original poster.
Adjust chain.

Also found more info on that sprocket:
