Cousin crashed today

My dad texted me today that my cousin was in a bad crash this morning. I don't have much contact with my dad's side of the family so I hadn't seen him in a while. He wanted to follow in the family and got a motorcycle about 6 months ago.

I'm still not sure of the cause of the accident either, everyone's priority right now is making sure he is going to be okay.

He was always in trouble as a kid and his dad is really a socially weird guy so I think didn't help his growing up. He's only 20 but been arrested about 3 times for various things. He liked the cool factor of having a bike, and despite a lot of concern from the family he would ride with nothing but a half shell helmet.

I also found out today that he didn't actually have his class M license or any sort of safety course training. He already had enough trouble with wrecking cars and driving poorly.

They can't tell us what his chances are at the moment, he's in really bad shape and been in surgery for a few hours just trying to save his right foot.

Never had an accident quite this close to me, but it doesn't deter me from riding. I practice safe techniques, always wear all my gear, and know what risks are involved. I really hope he pulls through.

Thanks Jason, it will probly be touch and go for a while. But I'll make sure to keep you guys updated.

It's... a bit difficult telling other friends about it. I realize it's hard for them to understand but whenever they hear of a crash they always try and force me to quit riding like it's the most dangerous thing in the world.

My dad just updated me, his right tibia was snapped in half, with extensive nerve damage and his knee was dislocated. His foot was broken too. They're going to try and save the leg, if not they will have to amputate.

Very sorry for your cousin and his family; way too young to suffer such a damage to his leg.

Let's hope for the best outcome.

Dang, that's scary. Hope he pulls through. Might be time for a heart to heart about riding after he recovers too.

Never good to hear a fellow rider going down. Hope the best and that he makes it. Glad it hasn't scared you out of riding! It happens but there is not much you can do about it just keep riding.
