new airbox modification

hello guys i honestly dont think that anyone has posted this atleast i havent seen it done...

lets start with what i have done so far..

i have the snorkel removed and two washers per needle (washer #4 from radioshack)

well yesterday i washed the bike and when finished drying it i decided to remove the filter and dry out any water that may have entered the box(which none did)

with the filter out i looked in there and noticed a metal screen in the aairbox most likely noise control for emissions,

there are two ways to go about removing this...

of course an easy and a hard way

the airbox is a two piece design and well if you seperate the airbox in two u can remove it(thats the hard way)

the way i elected to remove it was to stick a flathead in the and pry it enough to get a plier to grab it then i pulled it out being careful not to break any plastic that holds it in place

when finished take a vaccuum for piece of mind and suck up any particles that may have been stired up in the process then install the filter and be happy i didnt notice any sound difference but hey it one less restriction

it's usually installed in airboxes from the manufacturers as a back fire screen.

Just remember that bolts and stuff fall through the back seat body work and into the air box funnel. That screen is a good thing to have on a daily driver.

I've done this, and decided to do something slightly different with it. I feel a bit narcissistic to cross post to my own thread, and don't mean any disrespect to ninjette.org by posting a link to another forum. If you wanna call me anything, call me lazy....

To anyone reading, I WOULD NOT do the modification the OP has done. I cleaned out my airbox after the bike sitting for a year at a dealership and was suprised to find leaves, metal shavings of some sort, a bunch of dried mud among oil and other stuff. I would not want leaves and twigs or metal shaving being sucked into my engine, but thats just my 2cents
