Riding Position - Palms on Bar Ends?

This is a total noob question, so I apologize in advance. I just took MSF this past wknd and felt very comfortable on their bikes, did fine, etc.

Today, took the 250 out for the first time and noticed that my natural/comfortable hand position has me placing the bottom part of my palms on the bar ends while I operate the controls. Is this wrong? Is that what they're there for?

Does this mean that maybe I should look into clip-ons or adjust the handlebars?

imagine the bars are small birds. treat it exactly the same and youll do well

by this i mean, surround and hold the bar, dont put weight on or squeeze the bar.

also keep your forearms close to a 90degree angle from the forks, so when you push on a bar, you are rotating the forks, and not simply pushing down on the bar which will do nothing.

outside of that, whatever feels comfortable to you is fine

Jason,

I would say that it could be insecure as long as your hands couldn't properly hold the steering bar in the case of a sudden shake or steering input.

All good thoughts. As long as you can securely position the bars where they need to be, and have good control over the levers, the exact hand placement varies rider by rider. And even that same rider can certainly change things up to make longer rides more comfortable.
