Question about removing stock exhaust baffle

So I just bought a Ninja 250 from a guy; it's my first bike and I'm super excited about it. It's a 2010 with only 64 miles on it. The only problem is that he took the baffle out of the stock exhaust.

I don't know squat about engines and exhaust systems so I was hoping someone here could tell me if taking the baffle out could have any negative consequences before I start putting miles on the bike.

Also, I don't like the sound of the bike at all right now. I live in an apartment and I'm old so I like quiet things. How hard would it be for me to put the baffle back in the exhaust? (he still had it and gave it to me)

It seems like all I'd have to do is drill out the rivets on the muffler's end cap and stick it back in there. If I do this am I likely to mess something up?

Thanks guys!

Running it without the baffle will make you run lean. The engine will run hotter and perform worse. It's possibly that if left like that long enough you could do permanent/expensive damage.

Mountain Dew is right, any alteration to the air flow, be it exhaust or intake will effect you. With the baffle removed it will run lean and most these bikes run lean from the manufacture. I would shim the carb needles if I were you or buy a jet kit and instal l that. You need to make your air fuel mixture more rich as now it is possible that it is lean.

I think he wanted to put the baffle back in, not keep it baffleless like that.

I'm not sure how to put the baffle back in.

Welcome to the site, Kenny!

Ask the previous owner (OP) if he did anything else, like the things suggested by Thomas above.
He could also tell you what work he did to remove the part.

In that case you would need to reverse the work to take everything back to stock conditions.

Buy him a beer and see if he'll help you put it back in

I talked to the guy and was able to reverse what he did. I had to buy a rivet gun for 30 bucks but now it's TIME TO RIDE!!!

Thanks for the tips guys.

Glad to hear you got it figured out! Just out of curiosity did you notice any difference in sounds or performance between the two?

Huge difference in sound. The bike was... I'll say maybe 20% louder without the baffle and the pitch was a bit deeper. No noticeable difference in performance.
