K&N Air filter

hi guys/gals this has probably been covered more than once, but unfortuneately the search function is not working on my tablet.

I installed a k&n airfilter ka-2508. The cover did not sit flush with the airbox (until i bolted it tight), filter was sticking out just slightly? After i tightened the allen bolts it looks fine, just curious if this is normal or do i need more grease on the lip to slide it in further?

Cheers

Improperly fitting filters have been reported more than a few times. Be careful not to over tighten the cover if the filter is not fitting properly. Bending or warping of the cover may occur. This may also cause some air to leak in too. A easy remedy is too shave a little rubber off on the ends of the filter to ensure a proper fit of the airbox cover.

Ok im going to pull it and try a little more grease to see if that makes a difference, were talking mm here. If that fails ill try shaving some rubber off as you suggested.

Cheers

Yeah I ended up doing the same - then got a good fit.

you may want to shim your needle with 1 washer for better performance if you notice that your bike doesn't want to stay on with a cold startup or lags at lower rpms.

Installing the filter will make the bike run a bit leaner than it already is from the factory!

I just shimmed with two washers and i have a K&n filter and Yoshi exhaust... it feels like a new bike!

There is a recess at the far end of the airbox. The filter has to go all the way IN to the recess. The K&N is slightly thicker than OEM, so sometimes it is usual for the filter not to fit all the way into the recess.

I have a K&N and when i service it, it usually takes 2-3 tries to get it fit into the recess. It doesnt stick out to the extent that i would have to press the cover.
