The future will be cool, need a JIS screw bit? Just print one out! Alternatively we could invade Japan and force the standard system on them

Uhh, we've talked about this before including how the exhaust was on the wrong side as if to avoid infringement or something.

I thought there was some 3D model floating around somewhere, but I'm not sure if this was the same one?

The exhaust is still on the wrong side and you can render it with whatever color, gloss, background/environment you want, so: probably.

I'm trying to find it, but we discussed it again earlier this summer in this thread:

THAT'S THE SOLUTION!!!!!

Maybe some of you will remember this thread I once made:
http://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=73092

If anyone had a 3d printer, we could use that model to make real scale models of our bikes. It would be like the coolest thing ever and I would be ready to pay up to 50 euros for it!!!

Who has a 3D printer and wants to make me my bike?

I remember and I look around every now and then. In fact, that's why I stumbled across this last night:
http://www.ninjette.org/forums/showt...259#post580259

Anyway, the top ridge on the RH and LH lower fairings is rounded, also possible to deliberately differentiate it from the real thing. Anyone whou can use the file should be able to mirror-image flip it easily enough, but you might have to pay them to fix that error.

Just get one of these...

Its cheaper (only $11) and you get to upgrade to a ZX-6R with the chain on the correct side and everything.

It runs and everything... At least downhill.

a 3d printer large enough to print a 1:1 scale replica in extruded abs would cost a pretty penny... time on the machine would be very expensive, not to mention the 100lbs of ABS you would need... 50eu is a bit low

Dog ate the remote? Print a new one.

I read an article about some 3d printers that had come way down in price. I think they were going for $1800. You could only make very small plastic objects a few inches in length but its still very cool.

In one of my engineering classes we got to design a windmill blade in an autoCAD (total size about 6 inches from tip to tip) and print them out and then test them to see whose design produced the most power.

Really cool stuff

That's actually something I have said EXACTY multiple times in the past when discussing the possibilities of 3D and electronics printing. Recently, I stated it slightly differently and got a negative response in a tech forum purely because they couldn't use their imagination to see the possibilities. I'm back to using the dog analogy because it's something you are less likely to be able to prevent or correct before it happens ("I've never lost my remote!").

From Anandtech forums:

1) In my entire life I have never ever ever lost a remote to the point where it needed to be replaced. And I'll bet the vast majority of people are the same. The remote might wind up in the refrigerator or between the cushions on the sofa, but it never disappears entirely. And if it happens enough that a person needs a 3D printer specifically for that purpose that person needs to grow a brain, not a new remote.
It was not meant to express how useful it is to a limited scenario as if that scenario happened all the time. Rather, it was meant to express the opposite: solves many trivial little things that may happen.

Broke your remote? Don't like the placement of the keys? Don't like the grip? Want discrete power and input controls or other features? Don't like the color or button captions? Broke it? Cracked it? Scratched it? Dog chewed it up? Same answer to all: Print another!

Missing the thumbstick cap on your Playstation controller? Print another! Scuffed up your cellphone's battery door/housing? Print another! Disappointed that Nintendo never released the attachment for turning the Wii Remote Classic Controller into a motion gamepad ala SIXAXIS/DualShock 3? Print your own! Virtual Boy stand cracked in the middle like everyone else despite never using the replacement and replacements no longer being available? Print another! Tired of the external HDD connected to your soft-modded PS2 or Wii flopping around? Print a new console housing with an internal bay! Get the screw posts from the supplement aisle at the department store or use a design that snaps together. Similar designs will be shared EVERYWHERE.
