250r wheel on 650r... bad idea?

08 250r 17" wheel with 130/90 tire (130/70 stock), 09 650r 17" wheel (160/60 stock). Stock chain/sprockets both.

This would just be for a day or two until I get proper sized tires for the 650. Tire barely fit the 250r because of the height. Am I gonna have any issues with the wheel or tire? Getting my tools out now so if I'm making a mistake, tell me quick. lol.

Thanks, guys.

No direct knowledge, but thinking that hub width is critical. Also offset of brake disc and sprocket from centerline. Also size of disc. Also size of axle.

But if it physically fits and everything lines up, why not? Give it a try and don't force anything.

But why the rush? Are you that hard-up for transportation that you can't park the bike for a day or two?

What are you doing?

adouglas - I am that hard-up, bike's been sitting for days. Was supposed to get a set of half-day-used track tires from a riding buddy basically for free but he had to leave town the day the 650r blew. Can't take it anymore. Must ride... or try, at least. Gotta take the wheel of anyway.

jacryann - nope, 250r wheel onto the 650r.

Also chain size... neglected to mention that.

Jean, the OP subject says 250 wheel on a 650.

I'd be really surprised if it bolted right up.

I think 650R swingarm is 15mm wider. Gotta mix-n-match spacers.

jacryann - nope, 250r wheel onto the 650r.
One, the sheer amount of fabrication work required makes this not only imractical, but hugely cost inefficient.

Second, the width of the rear wheel is designed to take less load on the 250.

Third, if it just the fact that your tire blew, get another tire. The logic of putting a new wheel from a different bike entirely on because of a blown tire is like throwing away your shoes and wearing someone else's 3 size smaller shoes because your shoelace broke on one shoe.

Fourth, again if the reason is your tire blew and you're now thinking of putting 250 rear on the 650, it won't work. It's the wrong size.

Last bit of advice, as much as riding is awesome, have patience. If you jump to rash decisions when it comes to really anything, especially motorcycles, it's going to hurt somewhere.
