i can't get it started

it seems like i tried everything.
i bought a 04 ninja 250r and they said the carb needed replacement but it ran i rebuilt the carb changed the plugs and the starter and it won't start or it will start and stay idling with the choke on but if i use any throttle or turn the choke off, it dies
i think it might be a vacuum leak but i have no clue been trying to get it running for a week
thank you

Hi Don, welcome!

It's common with these bikes for the carburetors to get dirty, and it's very difficult to get them truly clean. Take a look at this page: https://n4mwd.blogspot.com/2013/10/s...-passages.html

Did you use jets from a carb kit when you rebuilt them? If so, that is probably contributing to your trouble. Kits contain aftermarket jets that are not correct. Also, if someone previously worked on the carbs, it's possible they assembled them wrong or left out important pieces. That happened to a guy here recently.

Back story is I installed those sliver tubes in the picture by dropping them in place via the carb throat. Totally wrong.

The correct way is to insert them first before emulsion tube and main jet.

When I had mine installed incorrect the bike would not rev past 5-6k before dropping power.

See Gordon's post picture for correct orientation.

Does this problem happen after a ride or just at start up?

What's your idle rpm set at when running?

Things to check:

-Airbox to carburetor fully seated and sealed

-dirty air filter

- spray wd40 or starter fluid around the ends of the carb holder boots at idle if the engine stumbles or accelerates you've found your leak.

Also check around the airbox|carb connection.

I like to take my seat and side fairing off, some times the spray will make its way to the air intake and make you think you found a leak.

Dom-

Care to share with us your carb cleaning "tools" you are employing? Pro compressed air? Soda blasting? Chemicals? Ultrasonic machine?
